“DO NOT STAY HERE - if they are still open anyway”

My elderly mum and dad booked this B&B on my advice for my brother's wedding last Saturday. They wanted to stay somewhere quiet, and with easy access, for age and health reasons, and given it was their son's wedding it was important it all went well. On 7pm on the friday, the evening before, Wood Hall called to say that they had sold the property and had to cancel. My brother was obviously too busy to help, and I had already got to Suffolk where there was no mobile signal or access to the internet, so finding somewhere else had to wait until the next day. In the end, my mum and dad had to drive back to Essex after the wedding. And to top it all, they still haven't had their deposit back. Absolutely terrible way to treat anyone, let alone people coming for their son's wedding - why on earth take bookings if you're selling the place. I've tempered my language for this review .... what I really think is too rude to publish.

“Very well looked after in a lovely setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2011

It was great to be able to stay at Wood Hall: quite a grand house with large gardens and 2 very friendly dogs! We had a large room with a comfortable big double bed. Susan was very welcoming, good company and she looked after us really well - super cooked breakfast with local ingredients, and also cereals and toast on offer. We didn't need lunch after such a good start.
Only 3 miles from Lavenham, which is well worth a visit - I looked into hotels in Lavenham but they were very expensive and I'm really pleased I chose to stay at Wood Hall instead. Shame we only had 2 nights but it was a fantastic break away. Thank you, Susan.

“Superb accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

We had a lovely 2 night stay in this beautiful, atmospheric house. If you like old houses packed with lovely furniture and interesting knicknacks you will love Wood Hall.
Susan made us feel very welcome and once settled into our room, gave us tea and cake in the garden. She advised us on where to eat and where to visit. We had an excellent meal at the Great House in Lavenham market square, and spent a day exploring Lavenham with the aid of an audio guide.
The bedroom at Wood Hall was very comfortable with a vast selection of toiletries for us to use. There are books everywhere, and we enjoyed browsing through the shelves.
Breakfast was excellent, as good as any we've ever had in any 5* hotel. All the fruit juices were freshly made, with homemade jams and marmalade.I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad with organic yoghurt. The "full english" was very good but the kedgeree was outstanding. Pity that Susan doesn't offer an evening meal....... with her cooking and the beautiful setting of the dining room we would have happily eaten there every night!

“You will not be disappointed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

Property is easy to find and easily accessible to main routes. Property is a superb example of a traditional Suffolk dwelling. Susan and Patrick are extremely friendly and receptive hosts who clearly demonstrate a desire to ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. So, if you are seeking accomodation in Suffolk which is easily accessible, which is immaculate and spacious, which offers top quality foods (even down to the freshly squeezed orange juice); and a warm and friendly reception then I recommend you stop looking elsewhere and you choose Woodhall at Lavenham. You will not be disappointed.

“Very enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

We enjoyed our stay at Wood Hall very much. We had a warm and friendly welcome from Susan and Patrick. The room was large with antique furniture and many pictures and had been well thought out. The bed was very comfortable with an electric blanket. Breakfast was served in the Georgian dining hall which had windows all around and a log burning stove. It was plentiful with local fruit juice, fruit, cereals and homemade jams, the ‘full English’ was beautifully cooked using local ingredients and was delicious. We enjoyed chatting with other guests at breakfast.

We took up Susan’s suggestion of hiring an audio guide (from the Lavenham pharmacy) to listen to while looking at the ancient buildings in Lavenham. Most interesting – although if you visit in winter be prepared to wrap up warm! An excellent place to stay for a weekend with many good places to eat in the local area .
