“Great location and excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We chose the Angel Hotel to tsay at for one night whilst visiting relatives nearby. The location is excellent and we were lucky enough to have a view of the Abbey Gardens and Cathedral. The hotel restaurant was fully booked for dinner, so I would advise others to pre-book if you wish to dine in the hotel. However, Maison Bleue turned out to be an excellent choice, (see my review). The hotel is in need of some refurbishment to the corridors and stairs, (faded and worn wallpaper and garish carpet that is out of place and doesn't match anything) but the room was very nicely decorated. The bathroom was clean and functional with a powerful shower and thick towels. The lounge bar was a lovely mix of old and new and had a very relaxing ambience, set off nicely with th roaring log fire. Pre dinner drinks in the lounge were served by a charming waiter who was very attentive. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of hot and cold. Ham and eggs was my choice and I thoroughly recommend it. My only criticism of the hotel is that we booked a douible room and therefore I expect a double bed, not two singles pushed together!

Room Tip: Views of Abbey Gardens and Cathedral to front of building.

“Lovely place for sunday lunch”

Went for sunday lunch at The Angel and it was fab. Staff are friendly, welcoming and really attentive without being in your face. Food was oustanding, the scallops as good as I've ever eaten. Good choice of wines and delicious desserts all in fab surroundings. And very reasonably priced as well.
I told them it was my daughter's 21st birthday and they decorated the table for us and then, to our complete surprise served up a special dessert for her decorated with her name and age etc. Lovely touch! Well done The Angel.

“It all comes together”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

It feels like at least three different interior designers were asked to furnish and decorate this amazing hotel. They all did and it works. The decor is challenging but cozy and comfortable - all at the same time.

Service is excellent, not least from the porters who look after your car and luggage on arrival and departure.

The restaurant is good - for both service and food. Interesting menus, including breakfast.

Good value for money in the centre of an iconic town, with Norman keeps and a Cathedral - just across the road.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the front of the hotel to see the gardens and Cathedral.

“Beware of the reception and poor rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We had great difficulty at reception convincing them we had prepaid with last minute.com. This is first time we have been asked to pay again and refused. Two phone calls later and they said sorry with champagne but moment was lost. Paint peeling in bathroom which was a disappointment in room at 140 per night. Lounge and fire were great but signs this place needs fresh paint in bedrooms and larger tvs in room. Past it's prime and disappointing.

“Great hotel in the heart of Bury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Great hotel, perfect for business. Ask for an 'Impression' room, these are a great price (£120 ish) and are finished to a brilliant standard. Staff are very helpful and very good at dealing with your car for you which is vey useful in Bury! Great little restaurant, but try the pub across the road for a pint of real ale.
