This is a meal review at the White Lion's Brasserie restaurant. After a day's walking and sightseeing in and around Aldeburgh we wanted an early evening meal with some meat - as a change from the short, fish-oriented, menu at our hotel further up the coast where we were on a short break. We were not disappointed. There was a warm welcome and fast attentive service from a young staff clearly working well together as a team. The food arrived promtply and we were through 2 courses in under an hour. The starters (gammon terrine amd stilton beignets) were excellent and substantial, without overdoing their purpose. The mains (leg of duck and shank of lamb) provided not only the meat fix, but real flavour and tender textures. The style was "nouvelle cuisine" but did not skimp on quantity as can often be the case where a misunderstanding over the value of presentation allows it to take precedence over the all-round food experience. My wife was driving so stuck to grapefruit juice; I washed down the ample lamb shank with a an enjoyable pint of Adams bitter. A most enjoyable way to end a first visit to Aldeburgh.
