“Avoid like the plague”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Booked for 2 nights. Arrived to find what looked like a vomit stain on the blanket - one member of staff went to find replacement. Room was tatty, communal bathrooms ugh, other people there loutish. Decided to cut our losses and not stay - quietly made a complaint and asked about a refund. Male staff member rude and aggressive. I just walked away but 2 male members of staff followed us into the car park arguing. Head office were no better and made accusations against us! AVOID, AVOID AVOID

“Don't go unless...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

If self cleaning communal toilets and showers covered in exrement is your thing then this is the place for you.

Also suitable for insomniacs as the noise at night of people running around will mean you won't get bored.

We arrived to find the residents having a fire in the carpark and having a mini party. Sadly we weren't invited so went to the pub.

The night we stayed someone decided to come out of the closest at 5am by shouting his sexual preference and what he would like done to him. Fair play but I just wish it had taken him a few hours more to make up his mind.

On the plus side nobody tried to come into the rooms as others have experienced and the TVs were very modern.

£27 for a twin room. You get what you pay for for everything else there is Mastercard...

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay at our hotel.

As you mentioned in your review our showers and toilets are self-cleaning, so the floor might be wet if you use it too soon after the self-cleaning process had finished. I am disappointed you did not inform any member of the staff about the state of the toilet/shower at the time, as I am sure, any of us would have cleaned it.

The "fire in the car park" as you referred to the barbecue was organized by our long term Spanish guests as it was their last weekend after staying more that six months with us.
I can assure you if Metro Inns Teesside would have organized the barbecue all our guests would have been invited.

I am terrible sorry to hear you did not have a good nights sleep. I am fully aware how distressing it is to be awaken at that time by someone screaming in the corridor. Keeping the hotel quiet is one of the hardest things our night porters have to deal with. Once they hear the noise, most of our guest do, too. After talking to the night porter, who was on duty that night and checking the CCTV, I am certain he did his best to resolve the problem.

I would like to highlight the fact, that no one could gain access to your room. The review you are probably referring to is from 2009. Since then we changed all our coded locks to keys, so the rooms are more secure, than they used to be.

Thank you again for taking the time to write a review.

Yours

Katie Mikusova

“What a relief!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

After finding ourselves roomless due to a family christening clashing with the Great North Run, we reluctantly booked this hotel - I didn't even dare read the reviews.....

What a pleasant surprise! The staff were friendly & helpful, the room was compact but spotlessly clean, there were tea & coffee facilities in the room (there is a hot drink vending machine in the lobby as well as a snack vending machine) and free wi-fi. The hotel is continental style with toilets & showers situated at the ends of the corridors (these are 'self cleaning' & smelt & looked fresh), hand towels were supplied & there was a wash basin in the room. The hotel is on a retail park, there is a McDonalds over the road & a 24hr ASDA superstore approx 5 mins up the road. We paid £27.50 through laterooms.com, had we booked direct it would have been £24.50 - this was for a family room that slept 3.

A bargain stay & all round great place for an overnight stay.

“Basic and noisy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Positives - clean room, okay mattress, very very cheap
Negatives - very noisy during the night and morning (a dog in the hotel barking, rubbish collections, doors slamming etc.,), limited shared toilet facilities, yes there are large screen tv's in rooms but you cannot get far enough away to focus on them!
