“Restaurant - overpriced for average food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

There was 4 of us booked in for a meal in the main restaurant. On arrival we order 2 drinks from the bar and asked to see the wine list and menu's. After 10 minutes, I got up and got them myself. The receptionist was booking people into the hotel and also serving on the bar. I ordered the wine but had to remind the one member of staff in the restaurant that i was still waiting for the wine, he promptly brought over the bottle and 2 glasses and walked off leaving me to open up the bottle.
The food choice was limited even with the specials. 3 of us ordered king prawn skewers(£6.95) which was really disappointing as it contained 4 bland overcooked prawns with a little pepper salad garnish. 2 of us ordered beef wellington for the main course (£24.95) which was ok butthe pastry was burnt.
The main issue is that everything was totally overpriced for average food with poor service. There was no atmosphere in the dining area, I had to ask the staff member to sort the background music out as it was stuckon one part and nobody had noticed. the menu and price list need to be reviewed.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that on this occasion you were disappointed with your meal. As you are aware, and as you said in our telephone conversation yesterday - you have dined with us often in the past few years, and been extremely happy with the food and the service. This incident is I can assure you a "one off blip" and does not represent our normally high standard of either our food or our service. With the large numbers of happy diners who visited us over the Christmas period we are disappointed to have received this review. We hope you will visit us again so that we can prove to you this was a one-off!!

“Parkmore Hotel Eaglescliffe”

We recently used The Parkmore for our daughters wedding ceremony. She and the bridesmaids stayed overnight and found the rooms exceptionally clean and comfortable.

The room we hired for the service was spacious and held around 60 guests and looked great for the service. Afterwards as photographs were being taken in the grounds, they rearranged the seating for our meal, and they also looked fantastic.

The food was great, and care was taken by the staff when serving, very polite and accommodating, and I am told by my wife that breakfasts were really nice there too. My wife cannot eat dairy products, which was a bit awkward as we had an afternoon tea there but they were happy to supply a separate plate of food for her which was a lovely touch

I cannot fault the staff at all, whatever we asked for was supplied and for a wedding day thats all you can ask for.

The downside of the hotel, and this is only if you are having a wedding there, as we are wedding photographers by profession, is that it is very limited in terms of areas for photographs. There is a small area outside that is adequate for small groups or you have to use the garden of an adjoining house, which isn't everyones cup of tea. If you're happy to take a minute or two drive, there is a lovely park close by.

Overall though for the hotels services, I would definitely recommend them.

“Fantastic for a function”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

We hired a function room at this hotel recently for a very special reason: the launch and celebration party for my book. I can't praise the staff and management enough. They were efficient, friendly and showed great attention to detail. The room was set up with thought and care, the food was fantastic and they provided tea and coffee as an addition. The staff were courteous and attentive throughout, without being too intrusive. I'd have no hesitation in coming here again, or in recommending it to others thinking of holding a function at the Parkmore.

Room Tip: Didn't stay overnight, so can't comment.

“Block booking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

We booked 11 twins and 5 singles for our professional fooball team. My personal experience was that my ground floor room (131) was neat, tidy and clean. I was near to the in house leisure facilities and with the hyro pool this was up to standard for the hotel rating.
On arrival our team coach had a coned off area and all rooms were pre allocated and it took five minutes to clear reception of all our party (27). Staff were cordial and friendly, despite a wedding in full flow and another major function. This was a typical Friday evening we see up and down the country and I think the staff did everything we asked and expected of them.
Restaurant and kitchen provided what we asked for in relation to evening meal and breakfast, even arranging a later breakfast time to suit our personal committments re our match and also to ensure other residents were not inconvenienced by a large party.
As a sporting team the only downside was no Sky Sports available in the main lounge.
Obviously only a couple of staff used the licensed bar but nothing to complain about there.
When you are making a block booking it is always difficult to get every room the same. Therefore, comparing one room against another in the Parkmore, let alone in any hotel is nigh on impossible to a certain degree. A bedroom is just for sleeping in......is it not!
The hotel as part of the Best Western group may not be up amongst some of the best hotels they have but I repeat the hotel is what it is and for the money we paid it was very good value for money.
As a football club the lack of Sky Sports was a downer on what otherwise was a satisfactory trip, (though we only got a point instead of three in our match at Darlington).
It is a three star hotel and we as a club have had better and there again worse.
Expectations can be misleading and we certainly have had our fair share.
The Parkmore did what it said it would do for us as a block booking.
Therefore expect that as a minimum and any thing more is a bonus.
We were more than satisfied.

Room Tip: I can only say my room was 131 and it suited me on my own.

“Needs soundproofing”

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel as she was attending a social function in Stockton-on-Tees. The staff were friendly and the room service meal was very good. Our problem, however, was that the walls are paper-thin and we could hear EVERYTHING our neighbours were doing and saying, and much of it should not have been shared with anyone outside their relationship. Eventually, I asked for another room and we had some sleep. I spoke to staff in the morning and they said that the walls are known to be very thin. This problem should have been addressed as part of the refurbishment, and we should have followed the advice of my daughter's friend and booked into one of the Premier Inns in Stockton. There should have been the offer of a price reduction when we paid, but we were too exhausted to remonstrate. We will not be staying there again.

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor, I am a little disappointed that your continuing to comment after I have spoken with you at the reception desk, when you checked out and also replied to your email via Best Western.

I have copied the letter to which I sent you in response....

Dear Mrs Thompson

Thank you for your letter, via Best Western, and for bringing your concerns to our attention.

I must apologise that the inconsiderate guests in the next room disturbed your nights sleep whilst you were with us.

I understand that the night porter, and the Manager spoke to these guests regarding the incident, and we can only apologise on their behalf for your inconvenience.

We are in the process of refurbishing the rooms to update the décor, and the soft furnishings in the rooms, but in the current economic climate it is taking longer than we would hope for! Both Best Western and the AA who inspect our facilities are impressed with the way our improvements are going, as are the vast majority of our guests.

I hope there were some positives from your stay with us and that we see you again in the near future.

Many Thanks

Nathan George
