“don't believe first impressions...”

This is a seriously stunning looking building but this is very deceiving, don't be tempted or at least know what you're going to be in for ...great price; inhospitable check in staff (what a rude woman on the front desk - she appeared to be the supervisor/manager!); charges for using a credit card; cash only in the bar or you have to go back to the front desk to pay for your round; plaster falling off the walls with the dampness; surprisingly good breakfast. My room was depressingly old and tired and I didn't take my shoes off until I got into bed; it smelled so strongly of smoke that I had a sore throat by morning (the windows didn't open) and the shower was so ineffective I struggled to wash off the soap. Makes Premier Inn looks like a 5 star. I know they say you get what you pay for (it was £37 B&B) but I'd never stay there again.

Room Tip: stay at another hotel

“Disappointed, Brittania hotels are usually far better.”

Fawlty Towers springs to mind when we first arrived as the manager was in the middle of a disagreement on the telephone with somebody that cancelled their reservation, he kept us waiting for 20 minutes whilst openly arguing about not refunding the irate customer.
He eventually got around to booking us in and taking payment, which he then tried short changing us !
We received our keys and he instantly moved away and started another conversation with a colleague that had just arrived behind the counter, we were not directed to where our rooms were - we then spent a further 5 minutes waiting to ask directions, which he really couldn't be bothered - just pointing down a corridor. We did however manage to find the rooms 2 floors and about 6 corridors later. At no point did the manager (Basil) apologise for keeping us hanging around for 25-30 minutes.

Although the place is relatively clean and tidy, the floorboards across the building 1st floor and above were unbelievable, the slightest movement made it sound like an elephant charging around.

The rooms were clean and warm, until you step in to the bathroom - where Captain Scott of the Antarctic would have thought twice before entering !!!
Even though the floors creaked horrendously whenever anybody walked passed your room, I slept well and can't complain too much.

We went down for our evening meal which was paid for in advance, they challenged us when we arrived in the dining room and studied our paperwork ( given by Basil Fawlty on arrival ) after 2-3 minutes of a full on criminal investigation it was found in our favour that we were eligible to eat there. Food was fine, no complaints, and in fairness dining attendant was polite and continually busy.

We stayed for 3 nights at the North Stafford Hotel and not once when arriving or leaving the building were we spoken to by the attendants in reception, no good mornings - barely even a raised head or a grunt.

It was much the same every night here, creaky floors - snowing in the bathroom - criminal investigation in the dining room !!!
Upon departure we dropped the keys into reception where once again we were completely ignored by staff, two gents resembling Basil and Manuel behind the counter - slid the keys onto their desk and no response. We were about to leave but found the main entrance door locked down which must surely be against Fire regulations !!!
Manuel came around from the counter and set us free !!!

“Perfectly OK for a night or two; great position”

Concerned after looking at reviews here, but actually all was quite OK. Literally a couple of steps from the rail station. Free adjacent car park - get ticket from hotel before you leave! Check in OK - but if settling rooms by debit card they have a £2 fee! Told no wifi in rooms, only public areas. Tried, but couldn't access, thought it was my machine; told by another guest it was the system. I drew it to mgr attention; he spoke to the IT support somewhere, and it was fixed - and even on top floor of hotel, I could just access it! One bar signal, but enough.

Ate in evening, bar snack - haddock and chips - really good size. Standard hotel issue 'breaded fillets' but quite OK and only £6.95 - but (I hope this is temporary) you have to go from bar to reception to pay if by credit or debit card!

My room, and a colleague, only single, though just OK size beds; my two colleagues had proper doubles - don't know why. (Maybe all that was left when company booked). But very cheap, so can't complain. Room perfectly OK, plenty tea/coffee and standard bath toiletries. TV old but OK, a few freeview channels - AND a sleep function, great! So all in all, quite OK.

Booked the hotel for a two night stay to watch the football (PLYMOUTH ARGYLE FANS)
Well what can i say staff polite. Stayed on a DBB package, food was excellant. We did ask for a smoking room which was supposed to be a superior room, i would say that this did not meet my expectations, but i suppose been a smoker , would not excpect to get the better room.
We did ask if we could move on the second night. Nothing was too much trouble for the receptionist whose name was Becky who was brilliant.
We must have had the best room in the hotel it was fantastic.
Will be back again very soon.,

my sister and i stayed at the north staffs over the Christmas period in a twin room with shower. not only did it meet our expectations, but surpassed them in every way. our room was clean and comfortable likewise the shower room. shower gel shower caps were provided as was a plentiful supply of soap. all towels were change daily. the beds were made and room cleaned thoroughly each day and the tea coffee and milk replenished. the food was hot plentiful and varied at every meal, there was also tea and coffee throughout the day supplied in the Frederick room next to the games room. all staff were courteous friendly and helpful in every respect. i would stay at this hotel again and would not hesitate to recommend it to any of my friends or family.
