“Pleasantly surprised!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed using Tesco points for the deal and found the hotel better than expected!

The room was clean and had all necessary facilities.
The reception staff were helpful as were the restaurant staff.
We 'ate in' on the Friday evening using their £35 for two for three courses offer and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Breakfasts: good range of fruits and fruit salads and ability to make good coffee. Note for the manager: you could offer better quality muesli and porridge - and, as someone else has said, the scrambled eggs need attention as they look very unattractive because they have separated out.

The only 'drawback' was that on one night the heating system seemed to crank into action noisily between 11 p.m. and midnight.

Dear Shipshape35

Thanks for the review glad you found us to be better than expected and that the team were helpful and quality of the food good.
Chef has carried out full retraining with the breakfast team and we now have great scrambled eggs... I've also asked him to review our museli and porridge.

With regard to the noise from the heating system - could you email me the number of the room you were staying in and I'll get maintenance to have a look.

Many thanks

Clare

“Best Western Stoke on Trent – An absolute credit to the chain of Hotels.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

My wife and I stayed one night at the Best Western at Eturia Park located next to Water World. We had room 415 located on the top 4th floor which is the executive floor. The room itself was spotless and there was a nice bottle of white wine chilling on ice for us, which I thought was a nice touch. The bed was really soft, which my wife liked, and the bathroom was fully equipped and also clean. The TV had the main channels and was clear. We did not hear any noise in our room, even though there was a Disco type function in the main function room on the Ground Floor. The reception staff were really friendly and we forgot our toothpaste, so they gave us a complimentary toothbrush and toothpaste.

My wife broke a glass by mistake, and they said no problem, thanks for letting us know. As the hotel is in Eturia Park there is plenty of amenities close by, such as restaurants and a Odeon cinema as well as a Retail Park, we wandered over the road to watch a latest blockbuster. The bar food is reasonably priced and was quickly delivered, very tasty. The bar prices are not exorbitant, so no problems there.

The breakfast in the morning was very adequate, they ask you your name and escort you to a table and tell you it’s a help yourself buffet style breakfast but they will serve you if required.

The only slight criticism was the lifts were undergoing routine maintenance on the Saturday morning, which meant they were out of order. My wife is on crouches at the moment, so it was awkward for her walking down 4 flights of stairs and then back up. We did mention this at reception, and they kindly offered us the operational staff lift, if it was a problem, we declined, but the offer was there, so still thumbs up really.

To sum up, this Best Western is large, clean and a credit to the chain, if we ever stay in Stoke again, we will be staying here, I forgot to add, the price of the rooms are very competitive as well. Please have a look at the photo’s we have included.

Mark & Michaela

Room Tip: Try and get the top 4th floor

“A good base but be sure to ask if they are holding any functions.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed 2 nights here in order to attend a football match at Port Vale's ground nearby. We arrived on the Friday night. Check-in was swift and pleasant. Although the hotel was far from full, we found ourselves in a room almost above a function room with an extremely loud disco. I fell asleep okay, but my wife had a disturbed night. It wasn't all night, probably finished about 11pm, but we had wanted to have a restful and early night's sleep. Incidentally, the room we had was clean, well appointed with a very good bathroom. The TV was a tad old and the remote didn't work until you got to within 18 inches which kind of defeats the point of a remote.
On the Saturday morning, we did some shopping nearby and on our return, our room was being cleaned by Margaret. When we told her about our disturbed night, she went off to reception to tell them and as a result we got some vouchers for drinks at the bar which we used that night to drown our sorrows as our team lost at the football.
We ate in the restaurant both nights. Service was good, friendly and efficient and the food was very good for the price (around £18 for a main course).
We plan on staying here again next year if we remain in the same league as Port Vale but will remember to ask to be away from any functions.

Dear Metroace

Thanks for your review its really great to read you had a good stay with us, I'm really sorry your nights sleep was disturbed but am pleased that Margaret was able to make amends for this.

You will be pleased to know that we have completed some retraining and that guests who are not attending the function will be allocated a room away from the noise of the function.

My Maintenance Manager has also gone round and checked all the remote controls replacing whols handsets or batteries as needed. We are hoping to replace all our TV's this year with flat screens. So should your team be playing Port Vale next year you'll be able to experience this!

thanks again

“Good for the money but fire alarm let it down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel recently as we were attending a wedding at the same hotel.
For the money (£70 inc breakfast) it is quite good. Breakfast not fantastic, the scrambled eggs were a bit watery etc.

One big problem was that the fire alarm went off at 2.30 am and was on and off for the next 30 min. I’m really not sure what went wrong, if it were a real fire then surely we would have been evacuated? It happened again during breakfast so I assume they have some problem.

All in all, not bad for £70 but rather let down by the fire alarm.

Dear Oliver

Thanks for the review, sorry you had a few issues with us. I've asked my head chef to review our breakfast offer in particular the watery scrambled eggs.

With regard to the fire alarm we experienced a fault with one of our sensors located in the reception area, the alarms sounded and because we knew from checking the fire panel and incvestigating the area that there was not a fire we did not evacuate the building. unfortunately we were not able to reset the fire panel because of the fault hence the alarms sounding on and off. Our engineer was called and within 30 minutes the panel was reset. We did try to minimise any inconvenience to our guests there's nothing worse than being woken up in the early hours of the morning.

The alarm and evacuation during breakfast was a separate incident. Excessive steam from a guests bathroom caused the smoke detector to activate and sound the alarm.

Oliver I hope this doesn't put you off staying with usin the future

thanks again for your review

“Happy New Year!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed on New Year's Eve for the masquerade ball held in the hotel, and had a wonderful time. The room was lovely (very comfy bed), the staff very helpful, and the event itself ran like clockwork. Brunch available until 12.30 (because it was New Year's Day I think) was very thoughtful, and (I have to say) delicious! Great variety, and all freshly cooked. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly, even though they were working on New Year's Eve! I would definitely go again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the fourth floor (room 409) and the room was great.
