We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Stoke as we were visiting Alton Towers, but our 'usual' hotel, the Premier Inn Uttoxeter, had raised its prices above what we were willing to pay. Initially I was concerned that Stoke may be further than i wanted to travel, but 35 mins gets you into Alton Towers from here, so not bad really.
The hotel is adjacent to the football ground, but was quiet and sits shielded from the road, next to a Harvester Restaurant. The Building itself seems fairly new,it was certainly in good condition. Rooms were of the usual Holiday Inn standard. Comfortable, with the 'pillow selection' and a reasonable size TV. Express hotels only have a shower, no bath but thats not a problem for us. The room can be crowded when the sofa bed is is use, but there is still plenty room to move about.
One of the good things with the express chain is you have a complementary breakfast. And as the hotel was cheaper than the Premier Inn, or Travelodge I did regard it as complementary! It wsn't a full english, but in additional to an exyensive Continental selection you have link sausage, beans and scrambled eggs. Not the best I have ever tasted but nice enough!
We stayed for a couple of nights so were looking to eat in the evenings. The Harvester was ok, but was more quantity than quality, so second night we got directions to festival retail park where there was a choice of restaurants. Its only 5 mins drive. Also worth a visit.
The bar in the hotel was a bit pricey, but has free wifi, so was 'compulsory' to visit as my teenage daughter needed to update her facebook! Lol! Staff are friendly and will offer any advice if requested.
