I understand that £69 for a room, with breakfast, is not too bad for two people - but I travelled alone and I expected so much more than I got. The most depressing thing was how dismally dark the room was. I was not impressed by the small TV, and I had to put my coat over me to sleep because the room was cold. To top it all, the kettle didn't work. My trip to was meant to be a special treat for me - I wish I'd done my homework better instead of relying on a preconception I had that I could expect more from Holiday Inn. If you don't have a car then its a 40 minute brisk walk from hotel to city, but during the day there is an hourly bus. My room was on the ground floor and it was a bit noisy from traffic and guests. Plus the smell of breakfast wafting in was strong in the morning. I told Holiday Inn about my disappointment. They said I could have called the duty manager, but my feelings are that if you sell a product (i.e a bed and breakfast) it is up to you to make sure your product is of good standard and this hotel fell way below. They were not prepared to offer me compensation - just a discount off another visit. I don't think I'll be going back in a hurry to somewhere with such poor customer relation skills and second class service.
