“what a let down!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I understand that £69 for a room, with breakfast, is not too bad for two people - but I travelled alone and I expected so much more than I got. The most depressing thing was how dismally dark the room was. I was not impressed by the small TV, and I had to put my coat over me to sleep because the room was cold. To top it all, the kettle didn't work. My trip to was meant to be a special treat for me - I wish I'd done my homework better instead of relying on a preconception I had that I could expect more from Holiday Inn. If you don't have a car then its a 40 minute brisk walk from hotel to city, but during the day there is an hourly bus. My room was on the ground floor and it was a bit noisy from traffic and guests. Plus the smell of breakfast wafting in was strong in the morning. I told Holiday Inn about my disappointment. They said I could have called the duty manager, but my feelings are that if you sell a product (i.e a bed and breakfast) it is up to you to make sure your product is of good standard and this hotel fell way below. They were not prepared to offer me compensation - just a discount off another visit. I don't think I'll be going back in a hurry to somewhere with such poor customer relation skills and second class service.

Nice clean hotel, friendly staff, Good Bar Area, and an excellent breakfast, the beds were comfy, the rooms are standard for this type of hotel, Theres tons of parking. You get what you pay for but I left feeling I had got a bit of a bargain really.

“Poor hotel all round.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I had an emergency trip for one night to Lichfield. I phoned up on my journey up to book a room and got one easily enough. I figured you couldnt go too wrong with holiday inn's.

The rooms were not large and the bed uncomfortably hard. I had work to do in the evenings and ended up getting two torches as the lighting in the room was that bad! Even with all the lights on the only place I could read a book properly was sitting on the toilet!

Breakfast was dissapointly poor as well. Sausages etc tasted like they had sat in the hot trays for hours- most likely 2 hours! The coffee machine left a lot to be desired with very bitter mochas!
There was a family with young Irish kids who were just left in the redtrauant area. The hotel staff made minimum efforts once a few customers complained- although no staff went to the room to get their parents!!

Location was rated poor as the hotel is stuck right out in the middle of no where- with a McDonald's next door and a frankie and bennys. Nothing exciting at all. You can't really walk anywhere for food so your stuck to the above mentioned places unless you fancy driving around.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at the hotel. I am disappointed that your stay wasn't a enjoyable as you expected.

Ongoing we have been replacing bulbs within our bedrooms to a higher wattage to brighten the rooms. I am sorry that this hadn't been completed within your room, however this is a gradual process we are working through.

Our breakfast standards are continually monitored by the staff on duty to ensure that food is served hot and fresh. I sincerely apologise our Express Breakfast was not to the usual standards expected.

Should your travels bring you back to Lichfield, I would ask that you contact me directly as I would like to be able to welcome you back to the hotel again in the future. I hope that we can restore your faith in the hotel.

Kindest Regards

“Good nights sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Comfortable clean rooms, good nights sleep, reasonable value for money.

Very close to major road network which is good, but a good 2-3 miles from the city so not much choice in the way of food nearby unless your happy with Macdonalds which is right next door.

I would recommend for an overnight stay in this part of the world.

“Good Budget Room for the Night.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Comfortable bed, clean rooms, good facilities. If the location suits your requirement it's a good place. The gym, Frankie & Bennie's and McDonalds next door are handy. Quite a remote location from any nearby towns (that's the impression I got). They do pretty competitive midweek rates which sweetens the deal.

Some people have mentioned the thin walls. I could see this perhaps being an issue, maybe I just got a lucky end of corridor room.
