“Excellent stay and great value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Had a great two night break at the White Hart. We were on a special package and value for money was outstanding. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel is very well situated and does have a limited amount of parking. Room wasn't huge, but pleasantly decorated and all we needed. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits and good toiletries. Had an excellent meal in the restaurant and the quality of breakfast was good. Would definitely recommend.

“Good restaurant and staff.”

This hotel has a great location right in the centre of the lovely town of Wells. Parking though tight is nevertheless provided.

Right from initial booking, the staff stood out as being exceptionally friendly and efficient - especially Andrea who is just lovely.

The room I had was a bit spartan and tired though clean and comfortable.

Dinner in the restaurant was excellent - good range of steaks and pizzas really well cooked and good service to match. Breakfast was good too.

Overall, this hotel represents good value for money - is clean and comfortable in a brilliant location.

I would happily return.

“Mixed experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Very old-fashioned rooms - woodchip wallpaper and patterned carpets, paper thin walls. Also rather small. The hotel's lounge was pleasant, though locked and in darkness later in the evening - we were almost locked in by someone who said she had to lock it at 10.20pm! Breakfast room excellent, however - very cosy with a real fire. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant over the road (Rugantino) served good food but spoiled the effect by refusing to let us sit at a quiet table in a corner, saying that tables in that area of the (small) restaurant were reserved. This proved to be untrue, as no other guests appeared.

“Good, but one major flaw”

I stayed here for one night whilst on business as my usual hotel was full. At first I though I'd discovered a gem; good location, helpful staff, comfortable room, decent food.

There isn't a real car park, more of a u-shaped alleyway, which was full when I arrived, so I ended up in a public car park around a 10 minute walk away. Not a problem for me as I was travelling light, but not great if you have mobility problems or lots of luggage.

The real problem for me was that the sound insulation between the rooms is non existent and so the quality of your stay is dependent on who your neighbours are. I was unlucky and from midnight to around 2am became the unwitting extra in what appeared to be a Brechtian porn film. And then when the actors were finally finished the snoring started....

So, I won't be coming back, but if you do stay here, make sure you get a first floor room, and then spare a thought for the helpless sap in the room below who has to listen to every sound you make.

“Shockingly awful !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

So dated.Stuck in the 1970's.
Has to be the worst meal I have ever had.The service was terrible,2 Eastern european waitresses who were obviously stressed & had to double up as receptionists for the hotel frequently running to 'welcome' guests.Asked for a tomato salad which consisted of thick chunks of under ripe tomatoes & even thicker rings of raw onion. No dressing offered & when asked for forgot about me.Main course of Beef burger tasteless.Didn't bother staying for dessert.
Can't believe we are in 21st century.
