Veneda had been wanting us to see Dunster for years. Upon arrival, we could see why. It is a stunning town, deserving the title of “The Jewel of Exmoor National Park.”
We chose to stay at Westleigh based on the excellent reviews here. They are well earned, as Craig (the host and owner) is one of the most genuinely hospitable innkeepers you will ever meet. He greeted us with homemade scones and tea in the sunny garden. Breakfast both mornings was thoughtfully prepared. Good Coffee. Bright, sunny breakfast room with skylight and French doors.
Good thing Craig’s hearty breakfast was so good because our dinners in Dunster were hugely disappointing. Cannot recommend either the Stag’s Head or Reeves.
Westleigh is pretty and exceptionally well maintained. Our room was comfortably appointed with king size bed, overlooking the enchanting town. The windows opened easily for taking in fresh Somerset air. The bathroom was large, with ample shower and tub (excellent water pressure) Bottled water was also left in the room both days (why doesn’t everybody do this?)
Heads up about parking and mobile/wi-fi issues. There is no parking for the Westleigh, though Craig is super about helping guests secure a good spot. This is not the easiest area for mobile/wi-fi operations. If you don’t need this stuff, forget about it until you get back to city life.
