“Friendly, but Unclean and Unhygienic.”

Booked a room for a night at Arundel House due to Chedwell Cottage being closed for redecorating and the good reviews here on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately the positive reviews were misleading; the B&B was located smack bang on Cheddar's main road with lots of traffic and noise. The small, shabby room looked out onto this road, and the bathroom was unclean. Although the owner was friendly and the dog loveable, the B&B was covered in clutter and dust. Hygiene clearly wasn't a priority. Disappointing.

“Ok”

Good room and breakfast. A bit close to main road so morning noise. Very helpful landlady. Good location for restaurants in Cheddar along road towards gorge.

“A lovely country house style welcoming hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

Firstly, this hotel is very easy to find in a fabulous location, right opposite a huge monument, away from the hustle and bustle of the actual main Gorge street but only a few minutes walk away. With the carpark at the rear of the hotel, arrival was made easy and so very welcoming with a cup of tea and home-made cake whilst we got over our journey. My en-suite room was really lovely, right on the front. Extremely spacious, great bathroom and all amenities catered for. If I wanted anything at all, I simple had to ask. The owner, Anne was just the perfect hostess, nothing was too much trouble. A wealth of knowlege on the area and her cuisine was simply delicious - especially the breakfasts. I loved the country house style, the ambiance and the green ethos of the hotel. It's a listed building and there were many curios around the hotel. However, what made my stay so enjoyable was the fact that I was able to bring my dog Polly - she was made very welcome too. Thank you Ann and your staff for a lovely and memorable stay. Polly and I hope to return again.

“Lovely small hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

My wife and I stayed here for two nights whilst on a Vintage Motorcycle event and found the proprietress a very welcoming person, even producing special food for our evening meal. Nothing was too much trouble for the lady. The hotel was very clean and tidy and well up to it's three star rating. Parking was at the rear of the hotel, quite secluded and away from the main road through Cheddar. The premises was previously known as the Market Cross Hotel due to it's position on the triangle with the old market cross on it. Highly recommended for visting Cheddar and about 20 minutes walk from the gorge and caves. this is the second time that we have stayed here and we will certainly use the establishment again due to it's warm friendly atmosphere.

“good value + friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

Solid quaint guest house, had everything we needed, the private parking saved us the £4 being charged at the centre of cheddar gorge just a 15 min easy walk away.
safe location, food was spot on especially for veggies. good location, very near to the gorge and the local supermarket.
our room at the front of the hotel exposed us to some traffic noise, but I would recommend this guest house as it was clean friendly and all transactions went smoothly. great breakfast service too.The dog was also very cute and friendly!
