My boyfriend and I went to Bath for Valentine's weekend. We only wanted a room for one night and after a lot of research into Bath B+Bs, Abbot House seemed to be one of very few that allowed you to book a room for a single night.
We paid £60 for the room, which seemed extremely competitive and, as we later discovered, was fantastic value for money.
On arriving at Abbot House we were able to park on the drive and received a warm welcome by Ann the owner's daughter as Ann was busy checking in someone else. We were shown up to our room where Ann met us for a friendly chat. We told her that we had booked a table at a restaurant in the town centre and she kindly offered to book a taxi for us.
The room itself was lovely- very spacious, clean and decorated nicely. There were plenty of teabags, coffee and milk and the room had a television. The en-suite was also large and very clean.
The only drawbacks of the room was that the shower ran very slowly and our radiator wasn't working. However, there were plenty of spare blankets in the cupboard.
Breakfast was served at 8.30 on the dot (the time we had arranged with Ann who told us she served breakfast between 8 and 9). There was plenty of cereal, toast and fruit available, followed by a full-English. I am a vegetarian and Ann was happy to do me a veggie-alternative with veggie sausages.
The hotel is not based in the centre of Bath and I don't think it would be possible to easily walk the distance. However, the taxi journey was only about £6 into the centre and apparently a bus stops near the hotel regularly which runs straight into the town centre.
We didn't really expect too much from Abbot House as it was so cheap and we've both had some nasty experiences of B+Bs. Also, its website lets it down as the photos don’t do the rooms justice. However, we were both pleasantly surprised and when we return to the area we would definitely stay there again and recommend others to do the same!
