“Lovely Place and Staff but.............”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Just got back from a weekend here and it was pretty good, the staff here are really friendly and do try and help although there are many foreign workers here who's English is a little broken but we got by.
The rooms are very clean and warm with piping hot water which is always a plus point, we did upgrade to the executive room but dnt think it was worth the extra or should i say dnt think there was any difference from the basic room, our double/kingsize bed was 2 beds pushed together with a topper on it the WiFi is pretty rubbish really when it works they had to phone a engineer to help them reset it but it did work but could be better you will get better reception using 3G in the car park the whole place is like a rabbit warren with rooms here there and every where and takes a bit of getting used to.

The Breakfast was nice on all 3 days although the Saturday morning the poor bloke who was serving was rushed off his feet trying to do room service and also keep the breakfast hall under control, Sunday was lot better as there were more guests there and also more staff on duty.

One of the main reasons we booked was to use the facilities of the fitness centre but once we seen how dirty the sides of the tub were as well as the water we decided to give the hot tub a miss, and also the other things they had to offer, there is also a coffee lounge there as well as a nice conservatory but we never seen it open, the bar is up stairs which is a bit odd we 1st went there Friday night and there were only 4 of us in the bar so pretty boring so planned to go there after coming back from Bath Saturday night but it was closed at 22.50 even though there was a Christmas party on down stairs we did speak to reception and they said a night porter would get you some drinks but we felt like socialising a bit.

The main reason we booked here was Parking in the centre is a nightmare so if you want a hotel with a car park well its OK if you dnt and you want some thing with a bit more life then perhaps look else where i think the conferences are their speciality

Room Tip: we stayed in 223 which is upstairs and looks out over some trees with no view apart from that

Thank you for your feedback, we always appreciate it when our guests take the time to let other guests review there stay. I would like to point out that the Hot tub is tested and cleaned daily every morning but unfortunately we cannot monitor 24/7 other guests habits when they enter or leave the hot tub. I am sorry that you did not take the services of our night service. We also operate a diverse workforce openly encouraging the team members to speak in a good manner of English.

Thank you for your feedback on breakfast

Kind Regards

“Beautiful grounds OK accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Bailbrook House is set in a good location and has beautiful grounds housing a lovely historic buidling with an interesting history. We were welcomed by efficient staff and headed to our room (which are housed in separate blocks behind the historic building). At first we were a little taken aback as it appeared to be almost dormitory style accommodation and no lifts, but were pleased with our spacious, clean and comfortable room with a nice outlook over the grounds. A little noisy with people at night and unfortunate problem with the fire alarm going off in the morning (false alarm thankfully, at least it works!) The location is good and the bus stop very close by for easy access into the heart of Bath itself (stunning!) fi you want a good long walk you can get into town though it would be at least 40+ minutes which we enjoyed but not for everyone . The disappointment for us was with the Cafe and restaurant - the cafe had very limited choice and had both the TV and radio blaring at the same time so we sat with a glass of wine outside! The restaurant had a really limited menu also but disappointingly had no soy milk for someone like myself who is lactose intolerant which when asked at Breakfast was met with a curt 'no' and then the attendant walked off (had asked at reception upon checkin but they did not know and suggested we ask at breakfast) I expected they would at least offer to get some in during our stay but nothing was offered and the attitude was very curt. The breakfast staff certainly did not seem happy and appeared quite peeved at being there which didn't make for a great start to the day - maybe we copped them on a bad week but it was the same each morning. Overall the stay was OK but I need to be honest in saying I would probably not choose to stay again.

“Not a good value for money”

That was the second time we had stayed in this hotel which means disappointed twice. The first was for our honeymoon in 2008 for one week which cost us nearly 2mnths salary for basic accommodation, not even champagne and the second this month for a conference, have stayed for two days after-4days in total. First the receptionist could not find the reservation; thankfully we had a printout with us. It turned out they have overbooked and we had to wait hours until all got sorted, not even an apology. When finally checked in the room was in a bad state, not clean and noisy, the shower burns you every time you get a shower if it works at all that is. The WIFI connection is really poor; staff are ignorant robots most of the time probably overworked, most did not even speak enough English. The location is inconvenient, have to walk up hill or steep downhill if want to leave car behind hence eye watering parking charges in town. It is around 2miles to town, not an easy walk so pack good shoes or pay even higher charges than London. Or even better do yourself a favour and do not stay there, I know I would not again. The only good thing I could say about the hotel is that the rooms are spacious.

Dear Madam, T
hank you for your comments i am a little unsure of your feedback as we do not seem to have had anyone through a conference that has had any problems to our knowledge. I have spoken to all the reception and managers who deal with conferences and reservations and they do not seem to have had any feedback

“Vouchers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I have just purchased a voucher from Buy a gift and called the hotel and booked a room for my stay on 7th march with no problems at all. After seeinf some of the comments I would like to say I booked the voucher assuming that there would be limited rooms on the offer - as with all of these types of offers. Im hoping my stay will be as pleasent as the member of staff who booked my room. !!

“Big support for a small meeting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Having searched for a central place to hold a meeting with two business colleagues I plucked out the Bailbrook House, excellent choice, the room, layout was exactly as requested. Although the checklist at the beginning of the meeting would be best served to a large booking it did mean that the coffees, lunch etc arrived when we asked for it, all staff were pleasant, the room was wonderful very period and conducive to a focused meeting. I was even surprised by afternoon tea arriving with scones and cream. Staff were very welcoming and I would definitely go back again
