I recently stayed here with a hen party group of 12. The accommodation is basic as you would expect from a hostel, however we were happy being in a dorm room and having cheap accommodation in a very central location (once we found it above Belushi's Bar!)
The hostel dorm was reasonably clean, although the stairs are very grotty with a pretty bad smell when you first arrive. It feels very overcrowded to have 12 to a room but that is what we expected in a dorm, and it was ok as it kept the group atmosphere lively! The swipe cards were very unreliable, so we sometimes had to prop our door open which is not very secure. Also some of the group arrived late and were granted access to our dorm even though we weren't there, which was slightly concerning as they could've been strangers!
We were on the top floor which was noisy due to traffic outside, but we could not hear the bar downstairs. Also as we were out late it didn't matter to us. The bathrooms are clean but too small - your knees touch the door when you're on the loo, some locks don't work and there was only one sink in our bathroom. Also, although the showers are powerful you have to push the button every 10 seconds, there is no temperature control, and they mostly spray all over the area where your clothes are hanging. Notices in the bathroom claimed this was a water saving measure but it meant you had to have constantly running water as you brushed your teeth, rather than being able to turn the basin tap on for the time you needed it.
We chose the hostel for the price and because breakfast was included. The breakfast was basic - located in the bar downstairs where the floor was still sticky from the night before and there were still drinks spilt on seats. It's self service with toast or cereal, although you can pay £2 - £4 for cooked breakfast, pancakes etc. Not all of the toasters in the self service area work and you have to fill a kettle rather than there being an urn, which drips all over the plug socket. The breakfast set up felt inefficient as you had to elbow your way to the appliances and try not to spill boiling water over anyone crowding round. Also I was very disappointed that the milk cartons were not recycled, and only paper cups were on offer, as there are recycling bins across the street outside the Pig & Fiddle pub.
Overall, this is basic accommodation in the city centre, and good for groups wanting to party.
