“Worse than a hostel and very expensive”

In general you can put up with some fairly bad things if you are getting something really cheap, but if you pay a lot for something very poor you can not help but feel utterly ripped off.

The hotel room was so small you could only just walk around the bed. This issue was massively multiplied by the fact there was effectively nowhere to store clothes or put bags. This meant that every movement became a chore and two people trying to get ready to go out became a nightmare.

Moving onto the bed. For starters I am not convinced it was even a double, but regardless of that it may as well have been a single as so few springs in it still functioned it was almost impossible for two people to sleep in it. If you have ever slept in a deflating air mattress and had it start to wrap around you you will know the feeling. After a two night stay in this hotel I was starting to get pains in my back.

I am 6 foot tall, so am on the taller side but not to the extent I would normally have issues. In this hotel I hit my head off low ceilings in the stairwells going to the room and could not even sit on the toilet properly as there was not enough space for my legs.

To cap it all, the bedroom, toilet, shower and bed linen were not particularly clean.

If I had paid a trivial amount of money for this room I would probably have forgiven it most of the above and simply made a joke about not me not being so stingy in the future. However, this place is charging a premium price for utter rubbish.

“Horrible - absolutely awful.”

On their website their describe their rooms as luxurious doubles. This is as wildly optimistic as their three star rating. The room we had was little bigger than a cupboard, there was a small double bed and just about enough space to shuffle around it. The bathroom was so small you had to sit sideways on the toilet. The bed was ancient and broken, it was horrendously uncomfortable. There was no duvet but sheets, a scratchy blanket and a stained coverlet. The room was facing the road so noisy and had irritating streetlight at night. The bathroom had mould, rust, limescale and was just generally dirty. The room wasn't very clean either with a thick layer of dust on the cups and stagnant smelly water in the tiny kettle. The corner wardobe that they had managed to wedge in had no rail so you couldn't hang things. The breakfast was the only thing that wasn't offensive about this place but even that had obviously been cooked in advance and then just put in a hot cupboard. Overall this was a truly horrible place to stay.

“Wonderful Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

Just had a wonderful long weekend away for the Christmas markets. Very Very happy with the choice of guest house, very friendly and homely. Beds very comfortable. Quick 10 minute walk (if that) into the main centre of Bath, and the Crescent is just behind. Have already booked to go back same time next year. Breakfast was scrummy.
Thank you Rose and staff for being so lovely- see you next year - Sue and Cheryl. X

Room Tip: Had the top floor twin room- spacious and so comfortable- massive walk in shower

“Weekend in Bath”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

A perefctly situated friendly guest house. 3 of us, had a room with 3 single beds, very comfortable, large shower and bedroom was large enough. A quiet room as it was at the back of the house. Owners were very welcoming and obliging, nothing too much trouble. Lovely breakfast and only a 5 - 10 minute walk to the centre. Will stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask to be at the back of the hotel, as guest house is on a busy road.
