“Choice location, comfortable, but nothing fancy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

The Carfax is in a great location - 2 blocks or so from Pulteney bridge, the Baths, the cathedral etc. The room can be small, but others are fine. The topmost rooms are _very_ small, and we refused ours, got one on a lower floor that was newer, fresher, and bigger. Plus the lift was out so up 5 (or something like that) flights it would have been, with some narrow staircases. The front desk is very hospitable and helpful. The breakfast is very good - decent selection of hot and cold entrees, cereals, bread. There isn't much noice coming from the street if you happen to face it, the other side of the building faces a park in the back which is nice. Can't coment on parking, didn't have a car. Cost is fair for this area - all the hotels seemed a bit more expensive that given their amenitites but it is all about location.

“Great location, great staff! comfy bed!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We had a great stay here. Parked right outside with a permit from the hotel. 8 minute walk to Roman Baths and Abbey. Small room but comfortable and cosy. Really polite and helpful staff. Cooked breakfast included and very nice. Good value for money.

“Good no frills hotel, excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I stayed here with a group of friends. We found the staff helpful and courteous and the rooms pleasant. The room was clean and the bathroom adequate. The hotel is excellently situated near the town centre but is really quiet. Our room was at the back and had a nice view and no passing traffic. The breakfast was very good and we felt the whole package represented good value. If you are looking for luxuary this is probably not for you but this is an excellent no frills hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quiet. We were at the top of the hotel, not good if you cant do stairs.

“A pleasant, well organised and convenient hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

All the rooms here are fine but if using the included Internet is important to you be sure to book a room on a lower floor otherwise the signal will be aggravatingly weak. Rates do vary quite a bit according to the season. An exceptional plus point here is the first class breakfast.

Room Tip: Book lower floors for usable Internet

“Ask for a room with a proper window”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

We had pre-booked the Carfax so were disappointed when our room turned out to be extremely compact with a sloping roof and small window that opened onto a concrete parapet spanning the upper facade of the building that blocked both the view and fresh air. We were fortunate to arrive early in the afternoon and secure a car space in the tiny parking lot - other guests were relegated to catching whatever space they could find in the surrounding streets, with a parking permit to exclude them from parking fees.
Breakfasts were excellent, with hot meals cooked to order, in a bright and pleasant dining room. It was a disappointment that the hotel didn't offer the restaurant for other meals. However, it was an easy walk to the town centre and we found an excellent bar and restaurant close to the Cathedral.
Of course, theCarfax Hotel's proximity to all the charming places in Bath is a big plus that helped mitigate its shortcomings.

Room Tip: Be sure that you are specific about the kind of room you want in terms of window size and view, and...
