“No 4* disappointing stay! Shabby,,”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Disappointing Stay in this shabby 4* Lodge'' Over Priced for what you get! and should not be rated a 4* more 2/3!
Pokey Small rooms that are un-clean' shabby, and not that comfy! Horrid Bed'.. there's definitely nothing romantic about this Placel! unless you like champagne for breakfast''
The Best Thing About This B&B Is The Location And The Breakfast With efficient Staff ,,
We stay in bath Twice a year and thought a change would be nice, we'd not return to this B&B there are much better places to stay' at a similar price ..Esp the Bailbrook House (next door)being one of them! Lovely ;)
Bath is a beautiful place' don't let your accommodation spoil it!

Dear Guest
I am sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay with us. All our mattresses have been supplied by a national company which specialize is supplying hotels and guest houses. They claim to have researched what constitutes a perfect night’s sleep and produced a mattress accordingly. We all know that we have individual preferences for either hard or soft mattresses. Our rooms vary in size. One third of our rooms are very large four poster rooms. All rooms are maintained to a high standard which reflects the four star AA Highly Commended rating which was just renewed three weeks ago. Each room is dusted daily. I am glad you enjoyed breakfast and found the staff friendly and efficient. I recommend you reserve a four poster room on your next visit. Once again please accept my apology.

“Full of unpleasant surprises”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Reading some of the review I wondered whether we went to same place and have double checked the lodge, it must be just bad luck but ours was not a pleasant stay to say the least. Maybe because of the renovation work was going on it was extra noisy and dusty and my extremely king husband did not want us to make a fuss so would not let me approach the manager but it was really unpleasant stay especially considering the obsene charge we paid for the 4 nights (over £750)
I would not say staff were unfriendly but they were not around, the place was not in a good condition to justify the price and we have ordered four poster room and roses in the room since it was our honeymoon but what we stayed in or received was far from nice room, not even fresh roses Hope your stay will be more pleasant…

“Staff are great but hotel disappointing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We arrived at Bailbrook Lodge to find a beautiful Georgian building. It was easy to find, in a very good location for exploring Bath, had free parking and nice grounds.

We were greeted by Michael and shown around the hotel and then up to our room. We had been upgraded to a four poster room which at first looked great, a nice size, but the bathroom was not a bathroom but a walk in shower with a toilet and a seperate wash basin in the bedroom itself. However, there was one major problem and that was the dust. It was everywhere. We advised Michael, who straight away went up to the room and dusted it, but on our return there was still a great deal of dust on almost every surface. In places you could write your name in it!

Some of the furniture had seen better days, the chair arms were thread bare and the TV unit drawers were broken and did not close. There were several stains on the carpet although the carpet had obviously been renewed fairly recently. Some of the wallpaper was peeling off.

The four poster bed was large. It had two single mattresses on it that should have been zipped together. However, the zips were on the outside edges and so this was not possible and we had a gap down the middle of the bed. Also there was no mattress protector.

Breakfast was good. A selection of cereals, croissants, yoghurts etc followed by a cooked breakfast of your choice with local produce. However, on day one we received two sausages and a whole tomato but on day two only 1 sausage and half a tomato. The only disappointment with the breakfast was the fresh fruit salad, which may have been fresh a week or two earlier but had mouldy fruit floating in it. On day 2 this had been rectified and a new salad made.

The staff cannot do enough to help you. Daniel and Michael are both great, as are all the staff and they are the one thing that is a asset to this business.

This could be a wonderful place to stay if they can clean up their act. We would consider staying there again but only if they could assure us that the rooms were clean and the other items of housekeeping rectified.

We stayed at Bailbrook Lodge on a Dealcheckers special rate but would not have paid the full price for rooms in their current state. In our opinion this is not a four star hotel, maybe a three star.

On our departure we informed Daniel of our problems and he made a very good reduction to our account.

I was very disappointed to read this review. Our rooms are dusted daily. On this occasion the room had not been let the night before and we hadn’t dusted before the guest arrived. I apologise and there is no excuse for not having dusted and checked before showing the guest to the room. It is our policy to upgrade guests from standard rooms to four poster rooms when available. Our four poster rooms do not have baths they have walk-in wet rooms. Some of our standard rooms have slipper baths. The guest could have stayed in their allocated room which had a bath but chose the four poster room instead. All of the bedroom armchairs have recently been recovered. The television cabinets are Italian antique furniture pieces and from time to time a hinge screw may come loose but they are never broken. The carpets are professionally cleaned twice a year. Occasionally a guest may accidently spill some tea/coffee and housekeeping is able to remove such stains immediately. All rooms are constantly checked for any maintenance issues which occur on a daily basis given that we are fortunate that the hotel is constantly busy. Our breakfast has been singled out by the AA inspector for exceeding expectations. We are the only B&B-Guest House-Hotel in Bath that offers complimentary, unlimited champagne at breakfast. All our bacon, sausages and eggs are from local suppliers who pride themselves on quality produce. Fresh fruit salad is made daily. I do not under any circumstances accept that the fruit salad wasn’t fresh. It is made the night before every day, no exceptions. Kiwi fruit is not mouldy it is how it looks when sliced. We do not and have never claimed to be a hotel. We are four stars AA Highly Commended Guest Accommodation.

“Fantastic Time In Bath”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We booked from New Years Eve for 2 nights and on first impression looked very old and quaint, on arrival we were met by Daniel in the reception area who showed us around the hotel and explained everything to us what we needed to know and made sure we had all our questions answered. The room me and my partner had was lovely. Daniel made our stay more relaxed and easy, he sorted out taxi's for us and found out times the Roman Baths were open, how much and so on... Breakfast was great and there was a great choice to choose from. We would definately recommend anyone to stay and would definately return
