“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here for a couple of nights and couldn't cannot really complain about anything. Customer service was great and the bed very comfy. Like others have commented, the floor boards around the corridor's and rooms can be very creaky. We luckily only had one in the room we knew to avoid. The room comes with everything you really need: Hairdryer, Tea making, TV, wardrobe, extra pillows and a large bathroom. Whether it was just our room or all rooms but the bathroom was very large but had a clinical feel about it. It was nice and clean with a good wide mirror but the feel with the lino flooring just had a hospital wipe down feel. Also our shower was an event of its own. The 2 heats were freezing cold or very hot with about 1cm of turn between the 2. Those are the only negatives and didn't really bother us, if anything we laughed. Final point about the rooms is the door slamming in the morning from the "older" guests that like to get up at 7am and so you find yourself also awake. Just a little annoying as breakfast is served until 11am and we hoping for a restful break with a little more sleep.

The location is bang in the middle of where you need to be. We decided to catch the train rather than drive and couldn't have asked for a better location for walking around. It also has 2 of Baths best restaurants a stones throw (Sotto Sotto & Yak Yeti Yak) or you could eat in the hotel. I paid extra for B&B but wished i hadn't as i paid £12 per person but the average breakfast menu item is £6.

If i stay in Bath again i will more than likely stay at the Abbey Hotel.

“Central Location Good for Sightseeing”

We stayed at the beginning of December for three nights. The hotel is ideally located for the tourist, with all the major attractions but a short walk away. The hotel itself looks a "bit tired" in places and would benefit from some money being spent on carpets and soft furnishings, in particular the stair carpets show their backing threads in a number of places, and the chairs in the lounge/bar area have their arms worn shiny. Parking is also something of a problem as the roadway in front of the hotel is "short stay" parking only so it is necessary to park some distance away and pay £12.00 a day to park near the Police station. These few grumbles aside, whatever the deficiencies in the fabric of the hotel is made up by the staff, who we found to be pleasant, efficient and eager to please. The selection of food for breakfast was very good and caters for the majority of tastes. Would we return? Very likely as looking around Bath at some of the other hotels they were mostly in less than appealing locations.

Room Tip: We had rooms at the rear of the hotel, which are much quieter as they are away from the street.

“Great, 1 night stay - if a little creaky!”

We stayed at the Abbey Hotel in Jan 2012 for 1 night on a Saturday. I prepaid the room online, so check in was no problem at all, although we checked in late following a session at the Thermae Spa, so I cannot guarantee the room would've been ready on time!

We booked the Abbey hotel as it was one of very few hotels in central Bath that didn't require a 2 or even 3 night minimum stay, allowing us a quick weekend jaunt from London. For this purpose the Abbey hotel has everything you need, it's walkable from the train station and all the major Bath sites. Very close indeed to the Thermae Spa, Roman Baths and amazing Church. Opposite to the Parade Gardens and almost within sight of the beautiful Pulteney Bridge. It's also less than a 5 min walk to Bath's rugby ground! Furthermore there are plenty of decent bars and restaurants nearby, I heartily recommend Tilly's Bistro for a cracking meal. This is about 100 metres from the hotel if you're feeling lazy!

Breakfast and service on the Sunday morning was also very good, well worth paying extra for. The only downer I can put on the hotel is that we had a real creaky floor above us, with any slight movement resulting in a titanic esque noise! So avoid room 203 if possible! Other than that it's a great hotel for a short stay in Bath.

“Romance on a budget...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Hotels in Bath can be ridiculously priced, and the more modern ones in ugly modern buildings. The Best Western feels a bit B&B ish, but it's well-located, well-priced, has excellent staff, and a decent cooked breakfast. Rooms are a bit tiny and creaky, and they could do with some kind of in-room entertainment, but that kind of adds to the charm...

“OK but watch the noise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

This is a reasonably priced hotel right in the centre of Bath and so very handy for everything. Inside the hotel is in reasonable condition and the room i had on the ground floor was fine, nicely furnished with a comfortable bed and good bath room. The only challenge i faced was i stayed here before christmas for work and the room i was in faced directly onto the passageway with the Huntsman pub. Consequently the night was very noisy so i did not get to sleep until late and then at something silly o'clock the bin men came ....

Consequently not a good nights sleep. The breakfast was fine however.

if you are staying here is is fine, but do ask if you can get a room on one o the higher floors and away from the passage side.

Room Tip: Not on the ground floor and away from the pub !
