My girlfriend and I stayed there for two nights over the bank holiday weekend in May 2010. To be honest we were a bit daunted by the many negative reviews, but booked it regardless as it was one of the few hotels with rooms left (we booked last minute) and we also liked that it was outside of the city.
We could not have been happier: the rooms were spacious, quiet, staff friendly, breakfast great (gbp10 pp), and best of all it has magnificient views of the mountinous area. The only two negatives are that it is a 10 minute drive from central Bath (will cost you gbp 10-12 by taxi, public transport is not really an option), and the wireless internet (which is free) in our room was spotty on the first day. The furniture and decor are also not the newest, but we didn't feel any discomfort.
Otherwise, it really is hard to tell where the negativity in other reviews is coming from - I would stay there again and highly recommend it for couples or anyone looking for a great getaway hotel in Bath area.
