“Nowhere near worth the money.”

Not a hotel more b@b. one man does all! The rooms in need of much updating and fixtures, fittings and furniture need to be replaced.
The bar charged £4 for a can of lager!
The heating wasn't working and we had no apology when we reported it. It was December!
This was nowhere near worth the£260.00 that we paid for 2 nights. Do not stay here. Best Western do not own it but put their accreditation to it. Can't think why!

“welcoming hotel owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

We stayed for three nights and were made very welcome despite our booking service first of all making our booking and then the following day cancelling it! Martin and Sheena dealt with this in a most professional manner and we were soon shown to a magnificent room overlooking the valley. The hotel is quiet and peaceful and just what we wanted after a busy 2 days. Thanks again

“A comfortable, quiet hotel in a beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

My wife and I stayed for a couple of nights at the Cliffe in September 2011. We were given a very comfortable room - our first four-poster bed - and enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is small (11 rooms) and does not cater for weddings so your peace and quiet is unlikely to be disturbed. The feel is definitely traditional but certainly not scruffy - we didn't see any particular need for refurbishment. The cooked breakfasts are excellent although the cold buffet is a little limited. We were made welcome and were looked after very well during our stay. If you're looking for somewhere quiet and comfortable that's within easy reach of Bath I'd happily recommend the Cliffe.

“Delightful and slightly quirky family owned hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We stayed for a couple of nights with with friends, primarily to visit Bath. I think I am being fair to say that this hotel is delightfully old fashioned, in its decor and some of the facilities, but also in the attention from the owners, the overall service, and the general feeling that you are very welcome. A little story which explains this hotel. To get into Bath, we chose to use the "Park and Ride", and the owner of the hotel produced a well used typed instruction sheet on finding the park and ride. He warned us that GPS SatNavs take you down very narrow roads.... so we followed the instructions and the trip was quick and easy. On the way back, we let the SatNav direct us.... and guess what, the roads were very narrow indeed, and took much longer.
We stayed in the "Garden Room", which is possibly the largest hotel room in Europe, with fabulous views, and a separate entrance onto the front terrace.
A family run hotel.... run by a family that clearly love the hotel business. Dont expect the predictability of anonymous chain hotels. Do expect a warmth of welcome, and a very comfortable and memorable stay.
As we drove away, all four of us smiled and agreed that we had enjoyed the few days enormously. What else can you ask for?

PS The owner has a wonderful range of single malt whiskies.

“A classic traditional family-run hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Since we were visiting the American Museum, we chose this hotel as it was near to Claverton Manor. It is a bit tricky to find but well worth the effort. This is a traditional hotel with comfy armchairs and sofas, a bar and a spacious airy dining room. We were given Room 4 which has magnificent views down the valley AND the most amazing wallpaper which I covert. We chose DBB and to be honest the food was only OK but for the Bath area it was reasonable. The breakfast however was very good. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool and a terrace but the gardens are too steep to explore unless you're very surefooted. Recommended for traditionalists
