“Truly magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

From the phone call with the reservations manager, through to the reception at Reception, the staff in the spa and our own butler - everyone was amazing.

My advice to you is to spend a little extra and stay as good as you can afford, it's not everyday you have a butler. The spa is excellent, don't shy away from the ice treatment.

Only areas for improvement would be an improved bar area (lacks atmosphere) and a better stocked mini bar (complimentary but 2x beer, coke and juice is naff).

“Wow, You will not be disappointed here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I stayed here for one night on business for a meeting the next day. I arrived in the dark when it was snowing. The signage for the hotel is good from the main roads and I found it easily- I have more trouble loading the car park as the hotel grounds were very poorly lit at night - but I go there in the end.
On arrival I was checked in very quickly and efficiently by a member of the front desk staff and was shown up to my room. The room was very nice indeed - a very large kingsize bed, excellent quality linen, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar etc. In fact everything you would expect from a good hotel - including Molten brown toiletries and bathrobes/slippers.
I arrived at 10.30pm and so was not able to access the restaurant and had to eat from the 24 hour room service menu which was very limited - so that was disappointing. I didn't use the spa facilities but am told they are very good.

What I did like
Awesome rooms with every home comfort you could want
Good food, although pricey was worth the money
Warm, friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you

What I didn't like
The walk from the hotel to the car park - although it is a short distance there is no path
The room I had looked out onto a flat roof, which was coverers in cigarette ends
The charge for parking

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We arrived to friendly staff greeting us from the taxi and then our room was upgraded to a suite which was spacious and comfy with a huge bathroom and shower. The spa facilities were outstanding and well worth it. We used these everyday. The restaurant was delicious for a meal, as was breakfast with a good menu. Can't wait to go back!

“5* no sir maybe once”

Interesting the last reviewer thinks as I do. This just is not up to 5* standards. Worn dirty dining furniture. worn rusty shower screen edges. side of bed greasy. comfy bed though. erratic heating air con and cold on arrival. The dinner we had was good and staff excellent so no quibbles there. Breakfast was also good. prices excessive especially bar although 50mil measures. My problem on arrival credit card declined no taking debit had to run to bank and unlock pin but found reception very sterile and as though reading from a script.I would have liked a little bit of leeway until I could unlock card or some help from them. my main bug bears are thus a £75.00 each deposit for nothing( allegedly for mini bar) and only told on checking in, a £10.00 WI fi charge , £2.00 credit card charge ,£5.00 car park charge sorry guys not in a 5* establishment. The spa was lovely and versatile with pool Jacuzzi outdoor pool heated and multi showers and saunas as well as a chargeable spa. location is fair and surroundings nice. a word of note we were lucky our room was ready but at least two couples arrived after us and past 2pm to be told their rooms were not ready,I noted that one couple were still waiting when I got back from bank. over all a nice break but just lacking that special touch. I think the main thing were the unexpected and unwarranted charges on booking in which really did put a damper on first impressions which were good due to the concierge but this cannot make up for the cold reception desk which also kept us waiting when we checked out.
Oh did I mention that when booking in your also put on the spot to buy vouchers for breakfast at £12.. thus saving £7.00 if bought the next day how is that 5* - sorry just cant be more positive as was really looking forward to this stay and in the end was pretty average. We got a deal on room price but looking at correct price I would never pay that under any circumstance.

Room Tip: garden view but really its garden via drive but nice view if you wish

“Beautiful hotel, Stunning Spa & Excellent staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My friend and I decided on a girly shopping weekend in Bath and fancied a little luxury thrown in for good measure!! I did my research and mainly due to the Spa facilities I decided to book the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel.

I managed to get a good price (£200 each for 2 nights bed and full english breakfast) and we were very much looking forward to our stay.

On arrival we were greeted by extremely professional and friendly concierge who helped us with our bags and then offered to park my car for me - have never had the luxury of this service before so was very impressed!!

Check in was faultless and our bags were swifly delivered to our room.

The room itself was a twin room overlooking the garden which was very nice and very clean (room 405).

Beds were comfy and there was plenty of room for 2 girls, our over night bags, several outfits and all the shopping bags we accumulated during our stay!!

Breakfast was delicious, stunning selection of fruit and pastries and the cooked breakfast was served on piping hot plates - yum!

The best part of the whole stay for us was the hotel's spa facilities and beauty treatments. We did book our treatments before we went and were very glad as they were fully booked!! Very friendly beauticians who performed miracles!!

The pool was very clean and very nice for a few lengths before indulging in the fabulous outdoor pool - which when we went in on Saturday evening was even more magical as it was snowing!!!

The steam room was lovely, we didn't try the sauna as a bit hot for us, the beautician suggested the ice room - where you rub crushed ice all over you before showering in freezing cold water - sounds hellish but was actuallly strangely good!!

When we checked out the concierge quickly brought my car back to the front of the hotel and even packed the car with the numerous bags we had accumulated over the weekend!

All in all neither of us could fault the hotel, and when we have our next shopping trip we will definately stay here - thank you to all who made our stay a very happy one!!

Room Tip: We decided to upgrade to a twin garden view room (405) for only £10 a night more - think we were luc...
