“Wonderful welcome, exceptional value, an exemplary B&B.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We stayed two nights in mid-December, we were delighted by Patrick's warm and enthusiastic welcome and his useful introduction to Bath. He made several suggestions of things to do and was spot on in each of them.

The home is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated to authentic Victorian style, and our room was very spacious. The bathroom was compact but certainly functional. Our room faced the street but double-glazing ensured no noise and a warm room. We walked into town each morning, but a bus is available should one wish.

At breakfast, Christmas carols were playing softly in the background, a lovely touch.

Having stayed in many B&Bs in the past couple of weeks, I can confidently say that this is an exemplary B&B and Patrick is an excellent host and a good ambassador not only for Bath but also for B&B style accommodation generally. We would certainly stay again and happily recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in Pisa and it was very spacious.

“The best host! Beautiful B&B!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

I can't say enough about how helpful Cathy and Patrick were! My mother and I stayed here in Sept, 2011. While planning my trip I changed my dates a lot, but Cathy always responded promptly to my emails and did her best to accommodate us as plans changed. I'm so glad they were able to find a room for us b/c this B&B is beautiful, well-maintained and well-located. We slept well in a twin room on the front of the house. The noise from the street was not a problem at all.
When we arrived Patrick was incredibly helpful in showing me how to park in the small car park at the end of the drive. (I'm an American used to big roads and big cars.) He did the same when we left, even halting traffic in the street while I pulled out!
Patrick also helped us make the most of our short time in Bath. He gave us excellent tips about how to get around and what to see. Sadly we were only there for one night.
As if that weren't enough, he served us a hot breakfast very, very early in the morning! We weren't expecting breakfast b/c we knew we would be leaving quite early to drive to Bristol to catch a flight. But he cooked a hot breakfast for us hours before the other guest even woke up!
I can't say enough about this B&B. It isn't right in the city centre, but it isn't too far either. We walked a short walk and caught the hop-on/hop-off bus to the centre. I came home late that night and took a cab back to the B&B. The taxi cost me 7 pounds.

“Excellent host!”

My partner and I stayed here for a weekend break in Bath and Bristol. I was a bit apprehensive as Bath is not cheap to stay in and I hoped the property would live up to the previous positive reviews.

The pictures do not lie, the property has great decor and is very well maintained. We were given room 4 (Paris) and it was very clean and comfortable! Only one pillow provided but you could ask for extra. We had a comfortable and quiet sleep, and found the room had all the things we needed (hospitality tray, hairdryer, TV etc.).

The most memorable thing about our stay, as most people have already stated, is the warm welcome from a very friendly and characterful host, Patrick. He makes you feel very welcome, and was chatty, asking about our plans and suggesting travel options or places to visit. The personal touches introduced by Patrick and his wife I think are the greatest benefits of staying here, including taking bags up to our room despite protests that we we happy to do it, having a hot water bottle available in the room, and even putting warm water on my car windows to remove the ice! I have never had such a kind and brilliant host!

The car park is a little tight (4 cars at a push, and you have to reverse out onto the road), but as Patrick informed, car parks are a luxury for B&B's in Bath. However, there are regular buses that stop literally just outside the B&B and go into Bath and Bristol, so if you don't need the car, a great place to stay. It cost us £6 return each to get into Bristol. We did walk into Bath from the B&B as we were told it was a 20 minute walk. It is a straight walk, but as so many buses go past, always useful in the rain.

There is a pub / restaurant just down the road that serves good food at reasonable prices (~£7-£15) if you need a meal and do not know Bath.

My only concerns about the whole stay were:
- The en-suite in room 4 was fairly cramped (the pictures of other rooms suggest bigger en-suites)
- We were surprised by a hot breakfast on the first morning without being asked. I prefer to be able to chose whether I want a cooked breakfast in the morning and the ingredients, so bare this in mind! However, Patrick happily served just toast the following day. There are lots of cold options available each morning which was great (cereals, fresh fruit salad, muffins, pain uu chocolat, crackers & cheese).
- There may be cheaper B&B's nearer the town centre with car parks, but the service may not be as good.

Overall:
+ Brilliant, friendly service!! ***
+ Lovely rooms / building
+ Close to bus links
+ Lots of extra touches **
+ Good location
- Breakfast options could be discussed
- Cramped car park

Room Tip: Room 4 does not seem as nice as the other rooms, request these first maybe.

“Good value for money”

We stayed at Somerset Villa on Monday, 28 Nov 2011 and found the experience very enjoyable. Cathy and Patrick were very welcoming and helpful. The room was spotless and they provided little extras like a bottle of water and biscuits with the tea and coffee. In the evening we used the lounge and Patrick asked if we wanted a cup of tea. We had actually opened a bottle of wine and he offered wine glasses and a bowl for our crisps. We would happily recommend Somerset Villa as a bed and breakfast stay n Bath. Parking is available at the rear of the property.

Stayed here last weekend with my mum. Very warm and friendly welcome by Patrick and he took the time giving us leaflets and telling us the best things to do in Bath. Lovely Victorian house, really well decorated. We stayed in the twin room with the bathroom across the hallway. Very clean and the bathroom was lovely. Cooked breakfast delicious and also cereal and fruit to choose from. About a 20 minute walk into Bath. Would recommend the free walks, the guides won't even accept a tip. The parking is a bit tight but Patrick has obviously helped people out of the drives many times and did it very well! Definitely recommended.
