“Comfortable Rural Travelodge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Just an overnight stop to participate in a sporting event.

Situated by the A36/A361 roundabout, a few miles SW of Trowbridge. As usual, it is not easy to spot. The Little Chef sign is more visible and shares the site and car park. There is also a petrol station on site. Plenty of car park space.

Standard Travelodge on two floors, except it is built in attractive stone rather than brick.

Reception was quick and cheery and we were allocated a room on the upstairs floor facing the car park.

Room was minimalist Travelodge spec. as usual. Bath with shower over. Everything clean and sweet smelling. A few maintenance items needed attention : one ceiling light bulb failed; one wall electric socket failed; one window could not be opened because its handle was missing. We have come to expect this and usually it is not a significant problem.

We ate at the very quiet Little Chef adjacent. Car park very dark as some lights were out. Understand some other eateries available close by in Beckington if Little Chef does not appeal.

Reasonably good sleep overnight despite some traffic noise from the road about 80m away. Might be quieter on the other side of the building.

All in all a satisfactory stay, particularly so at their long-booked £12 promotional rate. Would certainly stay there again.

“We had little choice....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We needed a stopping off point for a nights sleep to break the long journey from the NorthWest to Poole for a family funeral. Cheap and cheerful was the order of the day as we would be arriving late and leaving early. First problem was the receptionist gave us somebody elses key! Once that was corrected we found our room to be absolutely basic - with all the plumbing problems reported elsewhere - I complained about the plug not fitting the sink as we left but I doubt anything will have been done about it. The cold water wasn't but my husband said the shower was OK. The bathroom was less than clean - didn't inspect too closely as it was a means to an end. I don't think I would ever book a travelodge for anything other than an emergency trip as an area such as this must have lovely B&Bs for similar rates. Saving grace was the smashing pub in the village and window gazing in E Hopkins Woodworkers window on the walk down.

“It's a clean, basic travelodge”

nothing fancy about this place, but the rooms were a decent size, clean and there wasn't much noise. So for a Travelodge it was great!
As with all of these places, the prices vary dramatically dependent on when you buy them. The family room I had was £60, and the family room next door I had friends in was £35 as they booked up early
There is a Little Chef next door doing breakfasts and a garage around the corner, location wise it is easy to get to

“No frills??? No essentials either.......”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Having stayed at many Travelodges in many places over many years, I have never had cause to complain before.

Bathroom - mouldy on the tiles / grout, and at the base of the tiles by the top of the bath, big areas of black mould, it's nice to feel clean in the shower & after a shower, I did not..... The shower rail was also incredibly rusty all the way along.

Bed - very soft springy mattress with zero support, my fiance & I both woke up with back ache on the 2 nights we slept there, I even moved to the sofa bed one night which was marginally better.

Pillows - extremely thin and no support, add neck ache to the back ache. Asked at reception 3 times for more pillows but they didn't have any, so were given towels instead to help?!?!

Receptionist - friendly & helpful on arrival, enquired about getting into Bath for the Friday evening, told we could get a bus from the village which we did, and that a taxi would only cost about £10 - excellent, thought we'd get a taxi back. We did, a metered taxi from central Bath around 9pm, it cost us £30.... not happy & it spoilt what was a lovely evening back.

Travelodge = budget, no frills however..... in my opinion decent pillows, decent mattress & a clean bathroom are not frills, they are essentials.

Nothing to do with the hotel, but if any of you are staying here & going to a wedding at The Barn, Wick Farm in Farleigh Hungerford, lucky you as it's a beautiful venue. Beware if you do what we did, decided to drink, get a taxi back to the hotel, and a taxi back to collect the car the next day. The taxi cost us £23 (to only go 2-3 miles) from the Barn to the Travelodge on the Saturday night, then another £20 to get back & get the car on the Sunday. Some companies wouldn't even come out, others were quoting £30 or so. A very expensive experience.

“Stay here at your peril”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We use Travelodge quite regularly when travelling in UK . You usually know what you are getting and they are clean airy although basic. You get what you pay for.
THis one however was AWFUL. The fabric of the hotel was shoddy and run down, the bathroom ceiling covered in mould as was the shower rail.
If the water pressure to the sink and loo been any lower it would be non existant.
The bedroom window was minus a handle which meant it could not be closed.
The mattress had bottommed out years ago and was just so uncomfortable.
The was a loud high pitched intermittent noise that could have been the water heating system coming on and off but it was so loud in our room that we had to increase the volume of the TV!! It also woke us both at night.
Guess you could say we are very unhappy bunnies and will not be using this chain again.
Cest la vie

Room Tip: Dont go there in the first place
