“Excellent B&B with friendly owners and top breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Very welcoming owners on arrival (offering us a cup of tea and coffee!). Room was clean, tidy and comfortable, with every imaginable kind of instant drink available in the room. Fresh milk was available from a fridge downstairs, together with fruit juices.
The location is about 15-20 minutes' walk from the centre of Shrewsbury and fairly quiet despite being close to train lines and a road.
I strongly recommend The Peach Tree restaurant for food, which is barely 10 minutes away on foot.
My only criticism would be that if people are eating in the communal room downstairs, every word and clink of plates can be heard in the bedrooms on the first floor, but despite this we would definitely come back!

Room Tip: Rooms on top (2nd) floor might be a bit further from communal room.

“Little gem with a big personality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We went there for my birthday which was a surprise booked by my partne :-) Right from the moment we got there and we're given a welcome cup of tea and biscuits, Louise couldn't have been a better hostess. The room was great and the little extra touches were very thoughtful. Breakfast was a very high standard and Louise even gave us an extra duck egg(which was cooked perfectly!) to try. A fantastic little place and the hostess makes it even better.

“Exceptional - a real treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

We made the booking last minute on the telephone after researching on trip advisor. The process was very simple and Peter was very helpful. We received a long confirmation email containing lots of useful information.

On arrival we were greeted by Louise who instantly made us feel very welcome and supplied tea and biscuits. Although I said on the telephone we would be arriving quite early and wouldn't expect to check in properly until much later, they had prioritized our room and it was ready for us.

We were shown the Penthouse Suite at the top of the house which was lovely. It was very well equiped and I challenge anyone to need anything else. Everything had been thought of from cotton buds & bottle openers to dressing rooms. The tea tray would have put a 5* hotel to shame. The bathroom was very very equiped with a large walk in shower and a bath with a large selection of toiletries. The TV had a DVD player and ipod deck built in which ordinarily we would have used but we were too busy this time. A very valuable addition anyhow. Fairy lights around the bed were a nice romantic touch. All was spotlessly clean. The only downside was that the ceiling sloped by the right side of the bed so you have to be wary when standing up but the positives outweighed the negatives 10x. As a suggestion, rather than a criticism, a dimmer switch on the bathroom would have really made it home from home for us as once you have one at home you realise how fab they are when you need to go to the loo at 3am.

We had a great nights sleep and the bed was very comfy. We asked for hypo allergic linen when we booked and that was catered for without any problem. On our first arrival we noticed that the road outside seemed very busy and had concerns about the noise but we needn't have worried, all was calm. I don't recall noticing any train noises either despite being so close to the track.

Breakfast was pre ordered the night before though we were told not to worry if we wanted to change our minds. There was a great selection and the food was cooked beautifully. All was obviously of high quality.

Location wise, it was about 10mins to walk into town. Lots of interesting sights and shops en route. Louise is very knowledgeable about the area and the information supplied in the room was very comprehensive..

Parking, again had concerns as it was on street parking and hubby is very protective over his Jag. But no worries and found spaces without any problem.

In all, this place is what B&B's should be like. The price was outstanding and exceptional value. We had a double check as we were sure we made a mistake when we noted the price for what they offer. We certainly won't be booking anywhere else when we are next in the area.

“A lovely B&B and a lovely hostess”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I originally booked a twin room for a friend and myself for a shopping trip to Shrewsbury, but due to unforeseen circumstances ended up going with my husband. Louise kindly turned the room I had booked into a double with the most comfortable - and huge! - superking size bed.
Although our bathroom was across the landing, slippers and bathrobes were provided and the bathroom was immaculate. The room itself was spotless and bright and just what we wanted.
When we told Louise that we were just going to potter about town and maybe have some dinner, she gave us directions and a map on which she noted good pub food as well as more expensive eating places. She also pointed out the churches and shopping centres as well as the streets that had more independant shops and the market - which is well worth a visit. She is very knowledgable about the area, but there are also lots of local papers, magazines and information leaflets to be read if that's what you want.
The selection of drinks in our room was wonderful, coupled with some lovely biscuits and chocolates.
And then there was breakfast! Oh what a feast! We didn't need lunch that day. A great choice of cereal, an excellent full English with some of the best sausages I've tasted, and toast with a couple of cups of quality filter coffee.
There was no real hurry to get us out of the door, and we had a lovely chat with a very nice lady, Louise you are a credit to the B&B business.
We are already planning a stay in the summer of next year and will be taking our 5 year old, and we will definately be staying at the Anton Guest House.

Room Tip: Don't be put off if you can only get the room that isn't ensuite, it's excellent and ver...

“Excellent. Highly recommended”

I have spent a couple of nights here recently and what a truly lovely place to stay it is. The rooms are inviting, warm and beautifully furnished. Louise and Pete were very pleasant and helpful. Every thing was thought of for ones comfort: slippers, bath robes, plenty of towels and toiletries. There are extra pillows and blankets if desired. In your room there are biscuits, chocolates and a lovely tray of various teas and assorted drinks, fresh milk and fruit juice in the fridge downstairs to use. Also, little nail files and a sewing kit: lovely little touches! The cooked breakfast was spot on, piping hot and very enjoyable. I can highly recommend this guest house as a fantastic bed and breakfast located in a lovely part of Shrewsbury.
