A genuine coaching inn situated in the centre of historic Shrewsbury with its mediaeval houses and narrow shuts that is full of character. Staff were a bit grumpy on arrival, but the room was really clean and cosy. The hotel only has three stars, but this is probably because they don't have ironing boards, superfast broadband and fluffy slippers. Don't let this put you off because it really is a great little place. There is a revolving door, a cute little public bar, (serving locally brewed beer), and a bona fide 'great hall' with cavernous fireplace replete with crackling log fire and comfy chairs. Lots of wood panelling and plush carpets. Great food, with a choice of cooked breakfasts and continental. Vegetarians and other deviants are accommodated as well. The hotel has its own garage, with street entrance and most ofit is under cover. Highly recommended for a romantic getaway. While we were there a very formal gourment dining night was being run, replete with a great looking food and drinks bill and some very nicely turned out ladies and gentlemen in gowns and dinner suits.
