The good - the house is a lovely old listed building, with lots of character. Also the staff were genuinely nice and considerate. Food at the restaurant also very decent.

The bad - a very cold room with the heating rarely turned on. Not communicating to us that the restaurant would close early when we arrived a little late, and hungry with kids in tow. No internet connection in the rooms; easily solved with a small outlay. Main bed was also ludicrously soft, cosy but not great after the initial hour or so!

All in all a mixed bag. Lots of charm, but some simple things could improve it no end. Very expensive for a family suite all things considered.

Pleasant enough rooms . The trouble started in the evening with the meal and the service provided by the young staff. Incorrect meals brought to table, meals cold, no wine glasses, etc, etc' etc. Not their fault necessarily that there was no senior management present, but there was nobody there who had any authority or no-how to rectify the catalogue of disasters, leaving the overall evening as an extremely disappointing experience.

The next morning we were met by an arrogance at a level none of us (and there were 6 well-travelled people in our party-) had ever met. The owner/manager did everything except call us bare-faced liars to our face. Having not even been present on the premises on the night before he assured us that our food had been 'piping hot' ! Two of the three couples in our party have stayed before, but nobody will be staying again and we will also be telling friends to give the place a wide berth.

Have read other reviews and have seen that other people have experienced the same arrogant attitude. It's a shame because the location is perfect and if only somebody had handled the situation with some professionalism a whole lot of angst and bad feelings could have been avoided.

Location great, rooms quaint, totally let down by the evening meal. Started off well with a pleasant first course then things went down hill. They brought out the wrong meal for one of us whilst two of us ending up sending our food back as it was not hot enough.(as an aside the portions were pathetic). Waited half an hour for the missing meal to turn up together with the reheated meals (still not hot enough but at that time I was very hungry) . My wife had also sent hers back as she was prepared to wait for her sister meal to come, when it came back they did not bring the cutlery back - I had to go find the staff. Had white wine to start and red wine after - no red wine glasses, had to go and find the staff. Informed the duty manager of our issues. Next day spoke to the owner (manager ?) who at the end of the discussion said he did not believe us. His staff told him the food was piping hot and that the missing meal was quickly given.We paid what we felt was fair. We eat out a lot and this is the first time I have ever sent a meal back or had such a terrible evening food wise. We ended up giving up and going out in Ludlow. At that time could not find many places serving food, my wife ended up in the local spar buying a chicken tikka sandwich as she was so hungry. I am getting in touch with the Ludlow tourism board to complain.

Convenient setting and parking but the staff appeared surly. They refused to carry bags up several flights of steep stairs which were covered in very worn carpet. The shower did not work and the breakfast was only adequate. We did not book dinner because there was no menu in evidence. It was overpriced and very disappointing.
