“Excellent location but not a business user hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Booked this hotel based on reviews however as a business user its not ideal.
No food after 2115 it seems which is a must for people arriving late. Some sort of room service with hot food to at least midnight is a must. Quite noisy in that the whole place creeks (charm some may say!) and you can hear others in their rooms.
Food was good but when you take away the charming facade of the hotel it is in fact quite average. Free WIFI is a positive and one other hotels should look at.
I shall not be returning but if you are after a short break it probably ideal for you
Service was okay but not special Efficient but a bit cold at times. Room wa clean and nice to look at but table, (should be a desk) not ideal to work at.
One other thing, the taxi ride from the station will set you back £18 which tells you it is a bit of a way out of town

Thankyou for your review of Whitley Hall Hotel.
We are sorry you won't be returning to us but we would like to make the following comments:
Food is available via Room service 24 hours which is appropriate to our AA 4 star status.
We have this listed in our information folder, so we apologise if you somehow missed this, or were misled.
Whilst we will never be a Corporate hotel we are very popular with business travellers and conferences wishing for a change from the Corporate treadmill and are actively investing in our Conference facilities at the moment in line with our regular customers requirements.
We are a 16th Century grade ll listed building in beautiful grounds and advertise ourselves as such.
Thankyou for commenting that we offer wifi and also a hard wire broadband connection in all our bedrooms- free of charge.
It is unfortunate that you went to the Sheffield city centre railway station, as we have one in Chapeltown which is located 10 minutes away from the hotel and would cost you approximatley £5.00.
As you kindly said, it is a wonderful location.

“Country Charm”

Great tucked away hotel, very pretty location and not far from Sheffield city centre. Old world charm in a great old building, rooms are nice with great views. Breakfast was very good, the evening meal was kind of average. Service was not as friendly as it could have been.

“Lovely in all respects”

I selected this hotel based on the website descriptions and I wasn't dissappointed. Lovely setting, character in abundance, great food, good service and lovely bedroom (in the new wing but sympathetically and comfortably furnished in traditional style to match the original),and lovely public rooms too, with a choice of comfortable seating areas - cosy and informal bar or elegant drawing room. The dining room is lovely - tables are large and well spaced out and the setting is elegant. Food was excellent, I travelled alone but was joined for dinner by four guests and everyone was delighted. Service was great.
Last but not least they offer some great value deals!

Room Tip: Rooms away from the area above the kitchen fans are quieter

“Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We stayed here for two nights on an incredible value-for-money dinner, bed and breakfast offer. We had one night just the two of us and then were joined by friends for the second night.

Our room in the extension overlooked a pond and pretty wooded area and was very comfortably furnished with good-quality linens and soft furnishings. Complimentary port was provided, along with the usual tea/coffee tray. The bathroom was spacious. Housekeeping was excellent.

The original hall is beautiful with lots of wood panelling and open fires and was tastefully decorated for Christmas. Dinner was very good. Breakfast also was good with a self-selection cold table and cooked-to-order hot food.

All staff encountered were friendly, efficient and helpful.

There are two things I feel need improvement, the first is the bathroom lighting, which is quite dull and the second is that on the route from the extension through into the main building guests have to walk past stacks of banquet chairs and spare tables, it would be nice if they could be disguised in some way.

I recommend this hotel and hope to return in the future.
