I don't know where to start here. Firstly the room was £50 for a night (on a weekend which should be cheaper) - so more than a Premier Travel Inn, which actually have very nice rooms/bathroom. First to hit me was stunningly bad decor, which obviously hasn't been updated for decades. The room was tiny - and... no bathroom! for that price, far enough out of the city centre you would expect one. The landing outside the bedroom smelt as if something had died there, and the bedroom wasn't much better.
The bathroom was halfway down the stairs (nice and private), and the showerhead over the bath was about 4' high - the reason being that there was a big box shape jutting out along the length of the bath so you physically couldn't stand up in the shower!
Breakfast was another story! We went downstairs to be offered a choice of cooked breakfast, vegetarian or continental. We were told to help ourselves to cereal while we waited. The cooked breakfast, despite the gristly bacon, kind of fitted its description. The vegetarian was... the cooked breakfast, without the meat! So basically a plate of beans, with an egg and tomato. Nice. I waited in eager anticpation for the continental breakfast... and waited... and waited - until finally asking, only to be told, no, you don't actually get anything for the continental, you're just stuck with the muesli - mmmm, interesting variation on continental breakfast. I had to ask 3 times for tea, which when it came was as weak as anything.
Terrible doesn't even begin to describe it. The whole thing was hilarious, but at the same time I feel thoroughly ripped off.
Oh, and don't pay any attention to the 3 'diamonds' awarded (whatever they are) - these were given 4 years ago and have obviously received nothing since!
