“Appalling Management Policy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We booked our stay at Mosborough Hall Hotel through groupon. £59 for two people, for one night with 50% off the price of our meal in Darcy's restaurant. The only Saturday they had left was valentine's weekend and we were told that it was a special valentine's menu so we couldn't have the 50% off. On arrival at the hotel we were told that there was only the valentine's 'special' menu £35 for three courses and they weren't doing any other menus in the restaurant that night. However, once we had ordered and had eaten our starter, we noticed that other people in the restaurant were looking at an entirely different a la carte menu. We are appalled that they could tell us one thing then treat other diners differently. We would have much preferred the a la carte menu as we can't often eat a full three course meal. We asked to see the Manager, but no manager was forthcoming, we complained to the waiter (who was incidentally very professional), it was left to him to pacify us. He told us that his instructions were that if anyone complained about having to order off the valentine's menu when others were not then he was tell them that they could have the valentine three course meal for £10.50 per person instead of the £35 per person. Obviously, they were expecting that some people would not be happy - so why do it? As it happens the valentine's meal was atrocious anyway and i would have been complaining about it costing £35 anyway because it clearly wasn't worth it - no vegetables with the meal, and a very small, rather boring assiette of desserts which looked as though it had been made three days beforehand to SHARE!! The management decision to do this is appalling and the chef shows no professional pride in serving sub standard food to guests. On a more positive note the breakfast was really good, even though we did have to wait quite a while for it and we did need to ask the waiter to remove our dirty cereal bowls from the table after he'd tried to squash the cooked breakfast plates onto the table with them still there! All in all, we wouldn't go to this particular Best Western again.

“Enloyable stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Reading some of the reviews, I was wondering if I had booked the right deal.
I took up the groupon offer for myself and my wife for one night stay.
Reception staff were very pleasant and happy to help, Cleaners were polite and helpful also the bar staff and waiter service were good too.
Breakfast was very nice! and Hotel room was very warm with the Minus Temperatures outside.
I would recomend the Groupon offer.

“Shame about the restaurant/duty manager...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed one night here (Friday 10 Feb) using a groupon offer. The offer entitled us to a night's bed and breaksfast, a free bottle of wine and 50% off their 'gourmet menu' in the brasserie. Looking on their website at the time of booking, the gourmet menu, although restricted, looked very good and the full price was £21 a head so we thought the offer was a bargain! We arranged to meet friends there (who booked seperately). On arrival the young man on reception was extremely good, quickly checking us in and ensuing we had our voucher for wine (we don't actually drink alcohol so hoped they'd exchange it for a couple of soft drinks instead). The room (217) was spacious enough, very clean and tidy (though for some reason the light switch as you entered the room didn't turn any lights on. The only working lights were bedside ones and a standard lamp, which we had to leave on as we went out at night otherwise we couldn't negotiate our way back across the room in the dark when we returned!). It had a decent bathroom, comfortable bed (perhaps a bit soft...) and was standard 'travel lodge' style in it's decor - but absolutely fine for the price! My friend had booked the restaurant for us all for 7.45pm. She'd asked for an earlier time but was told it was too busy so we compromised on a later time. We both seperately spoke to the hotel on at least 2 occasions. When we got to the restaurant it was almost empty. Staff were standing around with nothing to do. We were presented with a 'Valentine menu' at £34.95 a head by the restaurant manager. Oops.. we thought we'd better tell him we were on the groupon offer so needed the cheaper menu only to be informed it wasn't available. When we expressed dismay (by now we we very hungry having saved ourselves for our 'gourmet meal' and frankly disappointed!) the restaurant manager was very rude, not in the slightest apologetic and just point blank refused to discuss it further. He gave me the impression that if we continued to question him he'd have us removed from the hotel! We weren't expecting to pay that price (and honestly couldn't afford it!!) so left the restaurant. It was embarrassing in front of the few others customers in there. This could have been avoided if we had been told in advance about it at any point but it was never mentioned. There was nothing on their website to indicate it wasn't available either. It could have been handled much better. The restaurant manager was also the duty manager so no joy complaining to him! Instead he treated us very poorly, as if we were some kind of lower form of customer because we were there on an offer. He should be sent on a customer relatiuons course. We have had better customer service at chain restaurants - he should learn from them! We returned to our rooms, headed out to a local cinema complex and had a meal at Frankie and Bennys! Not the gourmet menu we'd expected (and dressed up for!) but the waiter was brilliant (in stark contrast to the restaurant manager!) and the food good:-)
Breakfast the next day was excellent (thankfully no sign of the duty manager!). Other than him, all of the staff were polite, attentive (but too much so), and service was excellent - especially from the young man on reception. However our experience with the restaurant marred our time there - hence only 'average' rating for service. He wasn't a good example to his staff and shouldn't have been left in charge!

“Lovley Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for my Birthday and loved it , we only stayed one night though. The Hotel has history on the Boleyn Family (Henrey the 8th mistresses) which I found interesting. We stayed in the Honeymoon suite the room is hugh and is very pretty, and get views of the front garden area. I was quite cold when we got in the room ((as it was so big)) so the Lady on reception put extra heaters in the room so when we came back from the restaurant it was lovely and walm. Great Servive. The meal was lovley and lots to choose from. Will be back again.

Room Tip: If you can get the Honeymoon suite.

“Lovely Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Returned home today from a 2 night stay at Mosborough Hall. Would have stayed an extra night, but were disappointed with the evening restaurant food and nowhere else within walking distance to eat as an alternative. Have to disagree with comments on here about the service in Darcy's - we found it very good, just the food letting it down. The cheesecake desert resembled blancmange on a digestive biscuit! Plus sides were a bed we didn't want to get out of,really nice quiet and very warm room, a lovely breakfast and the nicest staff of any hotel we have ever stayed in, even ones ranking much higher than this and for those reasons we would return - but just not eat in Darcy's. Sort that out and its a definite winner. Next time we'll bring a picnic or a microwave and just not leave the room!

Room Tip: We stayed in 005 and felt initially we were going into a dungeon, but it was a lovely quiet and warm...
