“Good but not all there...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

We stayed here for two nights. It was recommended to us through a wedding that we were invited to and they had arranged for all the transport from and to this hotel during the wedding (the wedding was not held at the hotel).

When we arrived the nightstaff was very accomodating. We had not had dinner and arrived after 10pm. Unfortunatley the premises were no longer serving dinner but the receptionist helped us out. So far we could not fault but appraise the hotel.

The next day we had breakfast at Christian's restaurant which is part of the hotel. We had full English breakfast, although our thoughts was that it was a bit on the small side and the black puddig was overcooked as it was so thin we could not even imagine how quick it had to be cooked for... and the coffee was pathetically weak.

After the wedding we got back to he hotel by coach after 1am and there were a few of us staying there plus some friends we had not seen for a while. Now comes the big disapointment. The hotel does not really have a bar. As the hotel is managed by a different company (maybe Christian's restaurant) it had shut. Although the staff was available they would not sell us any drinks due to the tills being closed. By this point most of our friends left and dispersed. I am not sure if it is just us but we have stayed in a lot of hotels were the bar has been very accomodating with serving drinks. Only through hard work and persistence we eventually got some drinks (by 2am) although by this time it was only four of us. I must point out that we were only merrily drunk - so that's why in the end we did eventually obtain some drinks.

Our greatest dissapointment is that we had to experience this bar situation when we've been at a lot of hotes which normally accomodates their guest to a bar.

WiFI is available although our room was not in the part where it was accessible.

Room was fine (as you can get from a 3 star hotel) although it could be refurbished as could the rest of he hotel - to make it even an better experience. Although service from the reception was great!

“Great hotel, lovely setting, excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

We stayed here for three nights in September iin connection with the MX5 Owners club Autumn Rally. The setting of the hotel is beautiful with lovely trees, and considering it is on the outskirts of Sheffield it was very quiet. Service from all staff was excellent, especially Tina in Reception who went the extra mile to be particularly helpful. Had a meal in the Wine Bar which was excellent, fast service and competitively priced. Room was beautiful, very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean with a lovely private bathroom. Bed was really comfortable. They also put on a meal for over 200 people in a marquee in the garden on the Saturday night, which was excellent. Our only criticism was that the hotel itself offered to serve those of us in the Club our breakfast half an hour early on the Saturday and Sunday so we could get to the rally itself and runs through the countryside on time. This was obviously a bit of a challenge for the restaurant, and on the Saturday after waiting 40 minutes for my husband's breakfast we left as we would have been late for the morning car run, and they only seemed to have one yogurt in the whole place. Sunday wasn't much better although we did get some toast, but this time there was no yogurt at all despite the fact it is on the menu. However, they did redeem themselves on the Monday morning, with breakfast being served at their usual time. It was really good, lots of choices from the help yourself buffet, and my husband's cooked breakfast was served promptly and was very good.

“Disappointing in many areas”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a big convention. The room was nice, spacious with a 4 poster bed. However the latter was soft and not that comfortable - kept rolling into the middle and slept badly. Room also quite cold.

Bathroom was big with a bath and shower. Taps were a nightmare - could not turn hot tap off in bath which was pretty uncomfortable - had a real struggle yet cold sink taps would not turn on easily.

Hotel itself was quite nice but no lifts. The breakfast in Christian's Restaurant was very disorganised. On the 2nd morning we were all there from the convention and all needed to get out early. They arranged for the restaurant to open half hour early but were not prepared in the kitchen or restaurant. Service was seriously slow - some people waited over an hour from ordering despite several requests and many were served out of turn which was unfair. Toast only saw the grill on one side, butter was melted then refridgerated, fried eggs were solid, wrong items arrived. Service was slow and surly.

Reception offered us a discount rather than us asking because they knew how awful breakfast had been so it must have been bad.

We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with The Beauchief Hotel. As of January 2011 the hotel had new ownership and became independent of Christian's Restaurant. We have also newly refurbished the whole of the hotel in January 2011. Our bedrooms have been individually decorated to a high standard, ensuring a far more comfortable stay.
We also offer our guests Continental breakfast, with the option to have breakfast in your room. Despite being a seperate business to Christian's restaurant, our guests are welcome to dine or drink there, and the restaurant has now established itself as one of Sheffield's top restaurants.
We hope you decide to visit us again in the near future.

“Terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

What a horrid place! So over priced. The restaurant tries so hard to be something it isn't, the menu reminds me of a Bernie inn from the 1980's and is so expensive it's ridiculous. The staff were rude and lazy (other than the bar staff). I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay or eat here. What a shame considering that the grounds are nice and peaceful. I think the chefs should take some lessons in modern cuisine. The rooms were acceptable but no more. If this place wants to be a success then it should try much harder.

“Quiet and beautiful views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

Hotel was clean and reception were always cheerful and very helpful. Kettle and hairdryer in room. Shampoo and shower gel in bathroom. Very quiet and clean room which had obviously recently been refurbished and it was a nice size. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and staff were attentive. Buffet cereals and cooked breakfast. Our only gripe was someone had obviously been smoking in our room and we also smelt smoke along the corridor. Plenty of car parking.
