I stayed at the Rutland for one night on business. The check-in was OK and on first impressions the room was fine and nicely decorated. But a number of problems....Although it was sub zero outside, the room was stiffling hot. The heating was on full blast - the problem was that the heating was so noisey, it had to be switched off and because there was no double glazing the room only the original sash windows soon got cold and this was made worse by only having a sheet and a blanket - not a douvet. The on-suite was down a small set of stairs and the bathroom was bitter cold - the single towel rail heater had no effect. Also the toilet was crammed into a corner one had to sit on "side saddle"! The other big problem was the noise from the student population shouting and screaming as the passed the hotel in the early hours. And finally, the mattress was one of these memory foam things which are sooo uncomfortable. I did not use the restaurant or have breakfast. There are many very interesting restaurants and bars withing a short distance - I found a Turkish grill Eefes Bar which was great.
