First impressions when you get into the building are ok - the building has some beautiful architectural features and the receptionists are professional. Cleanliness in the public areas is good.
Wasn't too impressed with the room however so was glad we got it at a reduced price. Certainly wouldn't have been happy paying full price for it. It wasn't the cleanest, the window couldn't be opened (hence the room was too hot), the furniture was heavily stained and scratched and was desperately in need of attention and the curtains were falling down (see photo). Stayed here before and the room was much better so it's clearly pot luck.
Avoid room 152, it's in a noisy stair well (guests shouting up stairs and chatting loudly outside your room until all hours) and you can hear the staff emptying bottles into the bottle banks(?) until all hours too. It was after 2am before we could even think about turning out the light. Bed was really uncomfortable so couldn't wait to get up and check out in the morning. Next time we visit we'll be staying at a different hotel.
Good points? Breakfast was well done and the restaurant staff were welcoming and attentive. Receptionist also welcoming and professional.
Top tip - ask for a room away from the lift and stairs. The lift doors are really noisy and you wouldn't want a room next to it.
Tip to hotel manager - see about getting some proper road signage as the entrance is incredibly hard to find, even considering we'd stayed at the hotel before and knew what we were looking for. Also, go into each room yourself and see what the guest's first impression would be. Don't rely on guests to point this out to you.

Many thanks for your review , I am happy to anounce we have started the refurb of the hotel with changing table and sideboard tops in each room, plasmascreens and wifi in all bedrooms and corridor refurbishment.
The grand lounge bar is next , followed by the restaurant furniture.
I hope to welcome you back in order to experience the changes we are putting in place.
