“It's fine but that is the best I can say!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Hotel is about 5 minutes drive from centre of Sheffield. If you arrive on match day then don't arrive between 4.30 and 5.30 as the road at the front of the hotel is closed off.
Plenty of free parking so you could easily leave the car and walk into the centre.
The room was lovely and very big with all we needed so no complaints there. But the room was the best thing about this stay.
The staff were ok but didn't really seem very interested and the 2 young guys behind the bar were really apathetic. If you are charging typically expensive hotel prices for drinks then you should be training the staff to give great service.
The hotel has a bit of an odd layout. The bar is just to the left as you walk in from the street, but if the doors keep opening and shutting then it can be pretty cold. The restaurant would be ok depending on where your table is positioned but we were right next to the breakfast area separated by some freestanding screens - the layout didn't seem to work somehow. There was also a TV in there which was showing an Italian football game which seemed a little odd on a Saturday night. The food in the restaurant was good but the service wasn't great. The starters came instantaneously but they then forgot our main courses and we had to chivvy up the waitress. It also took an age for them to take our dessert order.
Breakfast had plenty of choice but the hot food was only luke warm
There were lots of tables left with dirty crockery and plates lying around. Some tables were like that when we sat down to breakfast and had still not been cleared when we left
It was a good value break so I can't knock it too much for the price, but I have to give an honest review and if we had paid more I would have been pretty disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor if you can

“Excellent stay and great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Have just returned from a one night stay at the Copthorne. As there was a home match on i arrived at the wrong time(2.30 PM) as the Police had closed off Bramell Lane and i got a bit lost looking for an alternative route to the car park, although normally finding the hotel would have been easy as it's on the roadside of Bramell Lane.Even on a match day there was plenty of parking available and we soon got to the reception. The reception and bar are next to each other and the bar was full of football supporters so it was very loud at reception. However we were dealt with swiftly at reception and we weren't interested in going to the bar at that time so it wasn't really a problem. We were on the 6th floor and found the room to be very spacious and of a high quality,it had a nice king size bed, desk and a couple of leather chairs, the bathroom was of similar quality with high end fixtures and fittings and a steam free mirror which was a nice touch. There was a fridge in the room but no room safe although safety deposit boxes were available at reception. The bed was nice and comfy but my only gripe was that the mattress was two singles and there was a ridge in the middle of the bed that wasn't pleasant to lay on but the bed was big enough to avoid this.I also would have liked WIFI in the room as i took my I Pad but couldn't use it as they only had wired access in the rooms,WIFI was available in the bar area though. We dined in the hotel restaurant and found the food to be of a high quality and the service was attentive, there was a 3 course set meal for £19.99 or a small but nice main menu, wine started at £15 a bottle so was reasonable. Can not comment on the bar as we didn't use it.As there were notices up in the hotel warning us that breakfast was expected to be very busy due to the hotel been full we decided to have breakfast in the room which was very nice and plenty of options available.Checkout was noon which was good as most hotels want you out by 11 .Checkout was efficient and we left the hotel with a positive feeling about our stay.Overall a nice hotel and good value for money.

“Nice hotel, free parking, averag breakfast”

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in February. We found the rooms to be very comfortable and clean. The cooked self-serve breakfast was probably the big let-down bearing in mind how much it costs. I also found the staff to be cold and unwelcoming - but maybe that's just me.

All in all though, the price is good when you consider the free parking and room standard.

Thank you for your feedback on this site.

We're pleased to see that you enjoyed the free parking and that the rooms were comfortable and clean. However, we're disappointed to see that you felt our staff were unwelcomimg. We normally get great feedback about the team at the Copthorne Hotel Sheffield and we are disappointed to read that on this occasion we did not deliver in this area. Your comments will be passed on to the relevant Departmental Managers and we do hope that we are able to welcome you back to the Copthorne Hotel Sheffield again soon.

“Great value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed at the cophorne for one night as part of the TZOO dinner bed and breakfast offer. We have stayed in this hotel before while in Sheffield and found all of the stays excellent. The travelzoo offer was very good value for money as we only paid £59 for dinner bed and breakfast, we normally pay about £75 for just bed and breakfast.

Room: The decor of the rooms is lovely, soft lighting surrounds the room even behind the screen that houses the flat screen TV, previous reviewers have noted the lack of lighting as being a problem in the bedroom area, I agree the lighting could be improved, but the lighting in the bathroom is excellent and to the other extreme very bright. The room has broadband internet access, tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge which comes in handy and a TV with lots of channels including sky sports. The beds are extremely comfortable. The only fault with the room was the noise coming from the air-con, which even when switched off you could still hear. This wasn't a problem on our previous stays.

Restaurant: The food in the restaurant was excellent, the choice of the TZOO deal was three starters, mains and sweets, we had the option of dinning from the full menu with £20 coming of the final bill, but we both chose from the small menu and the food was really nice. The drinks are expensive at the bar but the wine was very reasonably priced for a restaurant about £15, though they did have a limited selection. The room itself is ok nothing special, maybe something the management could look at. The breakfast was great with a wide selection of fruit and yoghurts and full English. My only complaints would be weak tea, poor mushrooms and the quality of bread used for toasting all of which in my previous stays have been fine. I must add that all the waitresses and management staff were very friendly and helpful both during dinner and breakfast service.

Hotel: The reception staff were very friendly and speedy both during check in and out. Free parking is an obvious bonus.

Overall: The copthorne is a clean and modern hotel with very comfortable rooms, great food in the restaurant with slightly overpriced drinks.

Room Tip: Try entering promotion codes that have ended, the TZOO code was finished on the travelzoo site but w...

“Good value hotel, clean and tidy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We stayed at the Copthorne as we were up to watch the football at Hillsborough. Having read a few reviews all I can say is - do your research! Of course if it's next to a football ground it's going to be busy on match days, of course the bar will be busy. But then we were there for the footie albeit at the other ground in the city!
The staff were friendly - big thanks to Jordan who helped with my booking a few weeks beforehand. We got a great rate with breakfast for £75. Good parking right next door (it snowed when we were there but the car park was partially gritted and we can prepared with shovel and brush to dig us out!) and easy access from the ring road.
Rooms were clean and tidy, really comfy bed - slept like a log. Great view over the rooftops of Sheffield as the snow came down and when we woke up - bright sunshine!
Hopefully one of the Sheffield teams will stay down in League One so we can stay here again. Highly recommended.
