Hotel is about 5 minutes drive from centre of Sheffield. If you arrive on match day then don't arrive between 4.30 and 5.30 as the road at the front of the hotel is closed off.
Plenty of free parking so you could easily leave the car and walk into the centre.
The room was lovely and very big with all we needed so no complaints there. But the room was the best thing about this stay.
The staff were ok but didn't really seem very interested and the 2 young guys behind the bar were really apathetic. If you are charging typically expensive hotel prices for drinks then you should be training the staff to give great service.
The hotel has a bit of an odd layout. The bar is just to the left as you walk in from the street, but if the doors keep opening and shutting then it can be pretty cold. The restaurant would be ok depending on where your table is positioned but we were right next to the breakfast area separated by some freestanding screens - the layout didn't seem to work somehow. There was also a TV in there which was showing an Italian football game which seemed a little odd on a Saturday night. The food in the restaurant was good but the service wasn't great. The starters came instantaneously but they then forgot our main courses and we had to chivvy up the waitress. It also took an age for them to take our dessert order.
Breakfast had plenty of choice but the hot food was only luke warm
There were lots of tables left with dirty crockery and plates lying around. Some tables were like that when we sat down to breakfast and had still not been cleared when we left
It was a good value break so I can't knock it too much for the price, but I have to give an honest review and if we had paid more I would have been pretty disappointed.
