Parkside was advertising a special rate of £55 per night inc. breakfast, which, looking at the website, offered good value for money compared with the local Premier Inn/Holiday Inn Express etc.
However, when I rang to confirm they'd recieved my internet booking the gentleman who answered was absolutely adament that breakfast wasn't included, despite the offer being on the website. I printed this off and took it with me.
Upon arrival in the reception area, there was no welcome by the receptionist, just "are you bookiing in?". Having walked in with two bags and a suit carrier, I would have thought that this would have provided her with a reasonable hint, but I felt obliged to answer her before the attack dogs were released.
My room was on the 3rd floor, easily accessible via the lift, was spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished, with free WiFi.
The bathroom was a bit dated, but everything worked and again, it was spotlessly clean.
My only comment regarding the room would be that, aside from the bible, there was absolutely no literature whatsoever in it, nothing about the hotel services and amenities or the local area. Since the hotel is clearly used by employees of contractors staying for a few days whilst working in the area, as well as others, I would have thought they'd appreciate having such knowledge to hand.
I was woken at 3am by someone whom I assume was leaving to catch an early flight, but I suppose that could happen in any similar hotel.
I had a few drinks and a sandwich in the bar that evening, and whilst I couldn't fault the quality of the food or the prices charged, the staff were equally as charmless as their colleague on the reception area.
My plans for the following day changed and I had to leave before breakfast was served, I also forgot to mention the issue with breakfast prices etc as this would have been £10 extra, not the end of the world but a point of principle.
The gentleman manning the reception desk when I checked out was marginally more polite, at least he did say good morning but when he'd checked that the bill was settled the parting shot was "you can go now". That again lead me to wonder if hired Goons were lurking nearby in case I did actually make a complaint.
Parkside is good value for money and spotlessly clean, but the staff need a serious dose of charm school and instruction in customer service techniques.
