“One of the better Travelodges”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

I stayed here with my elderly mother for the weekend, we had disabled rooms which were brilliant. Mother could use the bath without fear. Some of the Travelodges these days are really going downhill, they don't seem to be redecorating them and they look really run down, this one however is nice and clean, no mould around the bath as in most of the other Travelodges. The rooms on the front get a bit of noise from the services, people coming and going at all hours but it's not too bad unless you are an extremely light sleeper, if so ask for a room at the back, you can hear the motorway traffic but it's very distant and shouldn't keep you awake. There's free parking if you register your car registration at the desk. This tip may help some people, we left on Monday morning and I was so pleased at that time that we booked the Westbound and not the Eastbound Travelodge as the Eastbound carriageway was at a standstill with commuters heading for London.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel so you don't get the noise from the services.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We stayed hear over the weekend and as it is a Travelodge and we've stayed in a few now, we didn't expect much. The room was clean enough, but it was very tired looking. The place is in need of some maintenance now. There was not much noise from the motorway and we had a reasonable nights sleep.

We tried to make a drink using the room facilities and the kettle didn't work. As we didn't find out about this until the morning, we didn't report it otherwise I am sure a replacement would have been provided. My daughter wanted a shower and that's when we found out that the shower leaked. Again, I'm sure if we'd discovered this in the evening, we would have been moved.

The worst thing for me was that as we tried to leave the door handle came off! I'm glad we didn't have a fire alarm!

We did report these to reception in the morning and I was promised that someone would contact me. I am still waiting.

Sadly, I don't think we'll return to this specific travelodge, but I would probably stay in another hotel in the chain.

The overall quality of travelodges varies greatly

“Not bad for a motorway motel! Could not hear traffic at all!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We stayed here for the night before attending a conference nearby. Having driven up from Plymouth after a full day's work we arrived at 11pm. We were in the annexe and the rooms were normal Travelodge rooms.

We were all in family rooms and neither of my colleagues had anything to complain about other than the rooms being hot in the morning. None of us were disturbed by traffic at all.

All in all, it is a Travelodge and it was basic but it was a welcome nights sleep and was far better than the Farringdon Travelodge I stayed in last month! For £35.00 a night, you really can't complain!!!

“Cheap, decent stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

It is what it is - a cheap hotel in a service station next to a motorway.

As long as you bear this in mind, you will not be disappointed.

Room was clean, spacious, no major road noise. Receptionist friendly. Nice big desk in room to do my work, plenty of power points, big double bed and aditional sofa.

No toiletries other than a small bar of soap, but that is standard Travelodge procedure so you should already know that.

TV remote control did not work, but I was not sufficiently bothered to do anything about it. I am sure if I had complained they would have changed it, no problem. Picture was fine - standard freeview channels

Service station has a decent enough array of food outlets: Marks & Spencer, WH Smith, Cornish pastie stall, Burger King, Upper Crust baguettes plus standard canteen place.

Tips: The post-code for the Westbound hotel is exactly the same as Eastbound, so just apply common sense when your sat-nav tries to send you to the wrong carriageway!

When you check in, you have to tap your car registration into the console on reception to get free parking (with it being a services there is a 2hr limit for non-hotel guests)
