Had this hotel booked by my employer for a 3 day training course nearby.
I'm glad I didn't have to pay!
Prior to arrival I mused over the fact it was called "quality" - never a good sign! On arrival I was greeted well enough and had the eating arrangements explained to me - either eat in the attached indian restaurant or walk to another hotel. Nice. I then struggled up the narrow staircases (4 of them) to my room. The carpets on the stairs and hallways were faded and old, and the general consensus was already that this hotel wasn't very good. I arrived at my room, the door was scratched and needed painting. You had to use a Yale key. Very 1970s. At first glance the room was ok, clean and adequate, if not a little small. However, on closer inspection it wasn't so great. An old radiator was cold and paint was flaking off, a great big damp patch on the ceiling, rotten skirting board, a musty smell and the toilet was ridiculous, the door opened by missing the toilet by millimetres. You had to manoeuvre into a corner close the door then you could get to the bath/shower. The bath shower was old and the shower curtain stained. The water pressure was adequate. Basically they had stuck a contempary shelf in with some free soap.
As I had travelled from Cornwall I decided to just lump it. I went to the restaurant, the food was fine and the service ok, however I didn't expect to be frogmarched to the reception counter to prove who I was when charging the meal to my room (even though I had the key).
Next morning I met a colleague who was also staying in the hotel who was also bitterly disappointed so I didn't bother asking to be moving. The breakfast was cold (presumably it comes from the sister hotel round the corner as you had it in the indian restaurant) so I only had it once. I spent as much time away from the hotel as possible, only sleeping there. Other problems - toilet didn't flush properly, windows were single glazed and the room over looked a busy road, the radiator in the bathroom didn't work, bed sheets didn't fit bed... On the last morning, as I was leaving another guest was complaining, basically the reception staff couldn't give a toss.
I generally would not recommend
this hotel.
I have uploaded photos.
