Driving up to the hotel you can see the standard HI sign and there is a good sized car park out the front.

The check-in process was efficient but lacked friendliness and warmth.

My room was a decent size with sofa, desk and wardrobe. The furnishings are rather old and drab but still fit for purpose. The bathroom was a little on the small side but all areas were well kept and clean.

The restaurant was empty when I went to eat and due to a problem with the gas the menu was limited. The waitress was very accommodating and suggested additional meals that the chef would be able to make for me. The food itself was rather average but the service was consistant.

Just next to the hotel is a separate building where a few Christmas parties were being held. The reception area was also in use as a faux casino for one of the parties, but you could not hear any of the noise from the bedrooms.

Overall it was an average stay at a hotel which is clearly geared towards the business market. Given the choice of hotels around Reading I would probably not stay here again.

Everything about this visit was bad. The food was disappointing. The seats in the restaurant are the worst I've come across. As the bar and restaurant are one there was no escaping the noise of football on tv while having dinner.
The mixer tap on the bath didn't work and the response from the manager when I complained was beyond a joke. Then there was the hair in the bath, the 15 pound a day for internet...
To top it all off the hot water system broke and I was moved to another hotel.
In fairness though, the Polish girls in reception and the bar tried their best.

Stayed here on business, and got a good deal including dinner, unfortunately the dinner was over salted, but the restaurant staff dealt with my complaint adequately. Room was nice,roomy and well furnished, with a nice working area, but unfortunately the mattress was two singles zipped up the middle so the bed had a big ridge up the middle and was therefore not particularly comfortable.

So all in all not an excellent stay, but it served it's purpose.
