“Superb all round! Except getting locked in bathroom!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! Lunch was lovely-menu and views. Staff at the spa were great, even loaned me a pound coin for the lockers! The front of house hotel reception staff were average but one member of the team was exceptional-Christelle, was on the ball, and seemed genuinely interested in us, she was a joy to meet, fantastic customer service. The main let down was the size of the room, as an executive twin, it was very snug and our expectations were higher in regards to space. Not forgetting to mention my sister getting locked in the bathroom due to faulty lock, a good job I was there to let my sister out of the bathroom from the other side, we reported it to the evening desk clerk but we do not think it was taken seriously and it was not addressed whilst we were there

Breakfast was awesome!

Room Tip: Upgrade to executive, worth the extras, especially the nicer bedding and executive lounge.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for such lovely comments.

I do hope that your sister wasn't too traumatised at being locked in the bathroom and I can assure you that the lock was fixed at the earliest opportunity.

Fantastic comments on our Reception team, we pride ourselves on excellent customer service and am pleased to hear that they didn't let us down.

I look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards,

“Don't Take the Kids”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Lovely setting by the Thames, and equally nice inside. The staff were pleasant and the facilities in the hotel were what you would expect from a 4 star hotel i.e. good. There was nothing outstanding but its all ok.

If you are planning on taking children just be aware that the family rooms are dire. They are standard size with a very basic sofa bed. The sofa bed is of the cheap and cheerful variety(without the cheerfulness), and the double bed a standard size. Therefore, it really isn't feasible to stay here if you have more than one child and value a good nights sleep. We actually ended up putting the mattress on the floor and bulking it out with duvets (which the hotel kindly provided). The room is so congested with the sofa bed extended that you cannot move around the room!

Finally the leisure club will not let your children in at times of the day when they are likely to be able to use it. This should be made clear at the time of booking.

We had a great breakfast and would add that the view from the restaurant over the river was great. If I had been staying here for work it would have ticked the boxes, but it's not suitable for a family of 4 unless you book 2 rooms.

Room Tip: Premier Inn next door if you have children with you!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your comments.

I am sorry that you found the room to be congested. Should you require more space during your next visit I would suggest that you request a suite or an adjoining room which will allow you the extra space you require.

To clarify the timings in the Leisure Club, children are permitted from 9am-1pm & 3pm-6.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm & 3pm-6pm at weekends.
The only age restrictions we have are children under 12 are not permitted into the spa, sauna or steam room and due to the nature of the equipment, only children over 16 who have been assessed by our fitness team are permitted entry to the gym.

“Nice hotel, good value.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Went on a biz trip. 88 pounds, and an extra 10 pounds for a really good breakfast.
As a platinum club member I had an upgrade to an exec room - nice.
Good spa too.

“Lovely location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We try to always stay in Holiday Inns / Crown Plaza hotels as we collect priority club points for our annual holiday. Booked here as liked the look of the hotel and being based on the river.

We booked an executive room and we were upgraded to a room with a balcony which overlooked the river. Lovely views but when we were there it was too cold to stay out for too long, however I would imagine it would be lovely on warmer days / summer.

Agree with another reviewer there is a little bit of noise during the night from the ducks and geese but it didn't keep me awake for long and we found it quite funny.

Also agree room is on the small side, however we were out during the day and it was fine for us. Good sized king size bed, tv and comfortable reading chair, star of the room is definitely the balcony.

Club lounge was closed during our stay, however we were served drinks from the bar and ate in the restaurant for breakfast. Hotel was very quiet when we were there so no issues with service, we found all staff to be very pleasant and friendly.

Overall a lovely hotel which I would definitely stay at at again and hope if it's during the summer that we get a room with a balcony.

We only ate breakfast in the hotel but ate at the Indian restaurant opposite the hotel on the other side of the roundabout, had a lovely meal and would highly recommend it.

“Lovely hotel beside the Thames”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Only a few years old, the hotel occupies an enviable position beside the River Thames at Reading. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, and the lobby, bar and restaurant were immaculate. Breakfast buffet of both hot and cold foods was excellent, and the receptionist Christobelle is a gem. All staff wer friendly and helpful, and would happily return to this establishment. Plenty of car parking without extra charge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a river view - also quieter on that side
