We stayed here for 2 nights in Feb 2012.
Stayed in room 143! 200 numbered rooms above, Well, you can almost hear a pin drop above, The worst sound proofed rooms I have ever experienced. We were kept up till past 1am with people stomping up and down upstairs and car doors slamming (Car park just yards from bedroom door.
On top of that stained duvet cover and a TV that you cannot receive any BBC programmes!! Now whilst I expect poor tv reception in Europe, NOT in Reading!!
Next morning, spoke to duty Manager who stated she had already received 2 other complaints from guests regarding noise, but the occupants above were checking out that morning, so should not be a problem. She would ask Maintenance to sort TV and Houskeeping Bedding.
We were out all day, and on our return were dissapointed to see TV had not been sorted...My wife went to reception to be told by another duty Manager that all the rooms could not receive BBC since the digital changeover, in the meantime, we had barely been in the room some 30 mins when the noise from upstairs had started again, even to the point that you can hear people peeing above you!! let alone all the stomping and other rooms TV'S.
I immediately went to see the duty Manager who promptly moved us to room 718 on the opposite side of the complex on the second floor. This resolved the appalling noisy situation. Guess what this TV had all BBC Channels, so were lied to!, but, .......sad to say no ITV Channels!!!
Wish that was all the negatives finished with, but unfortunatly not, Breakfasts were appalling both mornings, not the quality of the food, but the service, Moronic, lazy, waitresses whom you had to approach if you wanted to order Tea/Coffee with you Buffet breakfast, even then you may not get it, without a repeat request!!
On a final note, I must praise Lisa, Breakfast Supervisor, who was doing everyone elses job plus her own to keep things running smoothly at breakfast. A credit to the Hotel, unlike some of the other personnel.
