We have stayed here on several occasions over many years. Sally is a very welcoming hostess, excellent breakfasts, lovely outlook over garden to the rear, ideal location on the outskirts of Oxford. Rooms do tend to be compact but are very clean and as other guests say there are lots of extra touches to make the stay more enjoyable. Perhaps some of the mattresses are getting to the stage where they may shortly require replacement but this niggle apart this is one of the best guest houses in the area.

We stayed at Gables Guest House for a week and it was a great experience! Sally Tompkins is a terrific landlady who really loves what she does, and it shows. The rooms are spotlessly clean, with extra touches like bathrobes in the rooms, a bowl of fresh fruit and a carafe of brandy by the bedside. Great wireless internet access and an excellent breakfast with a very good selection. Heck, Sally seems downright disappointed if you don't ask for something special for breakfast. Close to center city Oxford (there's a bus stop right outside the front door), this is the place you want to stay when in Oxford, for either business or pleasure

That B&Bs can vary so widely in quality is down to the personality and motivation of their owners. The Gables is a great example of how this principle works at its best. A delightful welcome, tasty breakfasts and genuine warmth from Sally and husband. Several other guests were repeat visitors, and I'll look forward to joining that category!

We had two nights at Gables Guest House and could not fault the service and facilities. Very thoughtfully decorated with comfortable rooms. Friendly landlady. Good selection at breakfast in a pleasant dining room. Nothing was too much trouble and Sally and Tony were very helpful. Conveniently located. Would be very happy to stay there again and recommend it highly to fellow travellers.
