“Dire!”

we booked this accomodation three nights before our visit, tempted by the location. we found it difficult to find and once there had to battle through a bus queue to get in the main door. the entrance was just a corridor at the end of which were stairs leading up to the reception desk. we were greeted by a very nice receptionist who gave us our keys and the manager (I presume thats who it was) took my husband to the secure car park that we had paid to leave our car in. having somewhere to park was an advantage even if it was a walk away and the only way we could access it was if the manager came with us to unlock the barrier!
our room was dreadful. there was mould on the wall under the window, the blanket had holes in it, some of the coat hangers in a very small haning space were so old and bent they couldn't be used. the shower was and absolute nightmare. We couldn't turn it off! after a very disturbed night due to the noise of the people coming in and out of the nightclub below and the booming of the music, we mentioned the shower to the receptionist aho said it would be sorted and asked for more pillows. when we returned from our day out, none of this had been looked at.
The television reception was awful and only had the main four channels so we couldn't even drown ouselves in the box!
At this point, having paid for two nights, we left and came home. it seemed pointless asking again and quite frankly, we just wanted to get out so forfeited our second night!
Don't even think about this one!!!

An awful, awful experience had in this hole of a place!

I have deliberately left it a couple of days before writing this review so that I could try to be objective...but I'm failing.

Pro's - Breakfast reasonable...it is located well.
Con's - Noise from club, noise from main bus/taxi route at 4 a.m.. No soundproofing between rooms and windows completely inadequate to limit sound from the street.

I haggled down to a cheaper rate before staying - but in the morning I was looking for a refund as we had had no sleep whatsoever. You cannot see it, but at night there is a basement nightclub that opens and the smokers open the door loads to shout in the street and the music can be heard then.

If you really, really have no alternative then demand a top floor, non street facing room. Otherwise, there are better alternatives - like going straight home!

“sleepless in Oxford”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

We booked this hotel on a complete whim, arriving in Oxford just 20minutes before booking it! We asked to see the room before agreeing to stay and it seemed clean, although basic and small. On arriving back after a late night we were surprised to see a burly bouncer on the door and even more surprised to realise the burly bouncer was for the club underneath the hotel! Whilst we couldn't hear much music noise from the club, we were kept awake all night by the constant stream of people leaving the club, smoking in the street and generally making a massive amount of noise! Add to that being on a main bus route and the street sweeper cleaning up the mess left behind by the clubbers we had absolutely no sleep at all and were both exhausted the following day.

We will most definitely not be back here!

“Just I can describe here; Bloody hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

My friend and I stayed here one night in an en-suite double room to join a conference in University of Oxford.

This hotel was really disaster.
The entrance was quite clean but, the managers (actually it's running by a family) were so unkind, the toilet paper was almost finished (there wasn't a new one), very cold room (they didn't heat the radiator during the night), the bath wasn't be cleaned.

And the funny thing is!!!
In the morning, when we went the restaurant to have breakfast, the manager didn't mention about the English Breakfast even though there was a meny for it. So I asked if I could order the Breakfast or not, but he said,
"If you choose the cereals, you can't have English Breakfast'. and he hid the menu papers in the office. It's unbelievable!
Also my friend found a small mamalade zam which eaten by someone because it was opened and dirty. They were recycling food.
Anyway, thereafter, other people came into the restaurant, I told them if you wanted to have English Breakfast, you should take the cereals. Unfortunately, they didn't understand my so quick and unclear English, and more unfortunately, the manager saw the situation, so I couldn't tell them about the truth; The hotel never wants to serve English Breakfast.
When we left the hotel, we saw some of other customers as well, but they also weren't eating English breakfast. It was very strange and funny situation.
It was obviously a bloody-hell experience. I recommend to people not to stay there for your happy journey.

“STAY AWAY - FAR FAR AWAY!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

I am writing on behalf of my guests: this 'hotel', for lack of a better term, is disgusting. I didn't even want to sleep in the room - it was dirty and unsafe. The club downstairs attracted creatures who blockled the entryway and were intimidating. Oxford is a safe place, and this location is prime, however NOT worth staying at. You are better off walking 10mins to a B&B than to risk staying here.
