We have just stayed at this hotel as a large family group in order to attend a funeral. The hotel has obviously moved on significantly from the time of some previous reviews. Although the decor is a little dated, our rooms were immaculately clean, with good quality linen and towels and powerful showers. Breakfast was impressive (the first hotel for a long time to serve beautifully cooked scrambled eggs!) and served in a pleasant dining room. With a room and full breakfast included in the price the hotel offered very good value for money.

Most importantly the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. You can really tell when people are making an effort and trying hard to make your stay comfortable.

We stayed here in December for 1 night as my company's Christmas Dinner/party was being held here.On arrival, the check in was very good and staff very polite.Reception was welcoming open fire and area decorated nicely for Christmas, BUT then the Bedroom, when we arrived at the room it was FREEZING, I went back to reception to advise them of this, they provided an electric heater. Carpet, Sofa and bed linen were SHABBY, the bed wasn't particularly comfortable either.The radiator in the bathroom wasn't working so bathroom was extremely cold. When we checked out I advised the reception Manger of my dissapointment with the room and after I had completed a form he reduced the price by 50%. We would have much preffered to have paid full price and that the room was warm and comfortable. Did not stay for breakfast so unable to comment.

The Christmas Dinner / Party was very enjoyable. Food good and staff friendly.

We stayed here as we were going to a party about 8 miles away, the rooms were very clean and large, the best thing was the staff very friendly and welcoming. would recommend this hotel.

My daughter got married here and we had a perfect day. The surroundings were beautiful. The ceremony room was apropriately formal, the dining room spacious and afterwards we had plenty of room for everyone to congregate, whether they wanted to be quieter or enjoy a riotous game of pool.
The staff could not have been more attentive to our needs, and nothing was too much trouble.
The bridal suite was stunning, with a luxurious bathroom, and the only slight downside was that some of the other bedrooms could do with modernising a bit. However they were clean and had big flat screen televisions so I have no complaints as I felt they were reasonably priced. Breakfast the next morning couldn't be faulted.
