“Cheap, central but very bad quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I stayed there for a night with a group of friends. It is indeed very cheap and quite central (20mins walk to historic city centre). However this B&B really gives bad vibes. It is trying to be a B&B at the price of a hostel, and this doesn't quite work out.

Hostels usually have rooms designed to be easily cleaned, and have constant maintenance. This B&B is basically not maintained. Cleaning is minimal, everything is run down.

Most importantly, it felt really dirty. The whole decor is pretty terrible (think bad taste from UK in the 70's). The office of the manager really smells foul. I really started to wonder whether an incontinent person (maybe his mother) was living there. Given this is the first thing that one sees, it gives a pretty bad first impression.

The state of the manager's computer gives you a glimpse of the general lack of maintenance of the whole establishment.

Toilet door was broken in my room. Not that bad, but you have to be ready for that, depending on whom you are sharing with. I didn't have a shower at this place, but a friend who did said his shower was a trickle.

The bed are really uncomfortable, and I am ready to guess that the mattresses have not been changed in 20 or 30 years easy.

Heating was full blast in the evening, then nothing during the whole night (so I woke up several times shivering). Why did I just not use an extra blanket?

The worst bit is that the blanket on my bed had a lot of (female) hair and pubic hair in it. That was really gross. I'm guessing blankets haven't been washed for a while, so I would stay clear of those.

On the plus side, you get a big TV (literally), breakfast is included (the coffee is quite good). You have to ask explicitly for toasts if you want (they are quite reluctant to provide those).

It is a shame, with a nice investment, rooms could be refurbished, and this would become a thriving B&B!

At the moment, only stop there if you are a young backpacker with their own towel, linen, you don't mind doubtful hygiene (see other reviews about stray cats in the kitchen) and you intend to spend most time outdoors.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room that isn't on the main road (noisy). And check the bathroom and shower...

wanted cheap place to stay for group of lads on the bash.
managed to get this but did not check trip advisor before we went.
Wasnt expecting the ritz, but wasnt expecting this dump.

Manager very odd character, booked two twins on phone, if you speak to him you will know what I mean. I phoned the day before to check if the rooms were OK, he asked me to go in a room for four, which was OK, however not what I had booked in the first instance. Wondered when it was he was going to tell me this, probably waiting till we turned up.

On arrival the hotel is a row of terraced housing. If you go into hotel from car park, the back is a tip on arrival I wondered if I had the right place. Walking into hotel from the back you walk into the office and kitchen area. A very weird looking character sitting in the kicthen, dont know who he was but hoped he was not the chef.

In the office, it is a mess. Dirty, messy, chaotic and stinks. Stinks like something or someone had died. Appreciate I was not sleeping in the office, but wasnt a good start.

Taken to the room by the manager. The house he took us to is what I can only descibe as a squat. It looks like the the sort of place that down and outs and people recently released from prison go. In all the bedding seemed to be clean. The towels were nackered, frayed all around the edges and ripped.

Bathroom had broken tiles, which some genius decided to just grout in place. Taps were broken.

Breakfast, decided the place looked too dirty and wondered if the kitchen dweller from the previous day would be cooking. Food would have to go through the office so we all decided to keep a wide birth.

Highlight of the hotel was laying in bed after a heavy night laughing at all the bad reviews and realising we had just stayed in probably the worst hotel in the UK.

“The reviews Set the scene for a awsome horror movie,it wasnt as bad as made out...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011 via mobile

At the weekend, my friends and i made our way to OXford, our friend had booked the nanford in advance for us, on the way there we decided to read the reviews for it, most of the reviews decribed it as a urine soaked heck hole with a slightly odd physco as the manager... The dissapointing thing is it wasnt to bad, we laughed so much on the way down creating this awsome horror story it made our journey fun, when we got there we did have trouble finding parking and the entrance hummed but that was it. The manager was helpfull showed us to our room, it was relitivley clean, i had a suspicious stain on my pillow but i swapped it w ith my boyfriends and that was that sorted.i proberly wouldnt have breakfast there thats the only thing. It made a interesting stay.

“Good value for money, absolutely fine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

i stayed at Nanford Guest House for 4 nights with my boyfriend in November 2011. I booked the hotel before reading the comments on here and I have to admit I was seriously scared. When we eventually got there... it was absolutely fine ! The rooms were clean, yes a bit small and shower a bit dodgy, but what else do you expect for 50 pounds in the centre of Oxford? Good value for money! Maybe we were lucky and got the nicest rooms, but I can honestly say it was much better than just bearable, the bed was comfy and we had absolutely no problems during our stay (except maybe the paper thin walls.. but I guess this was more of a problem for our neighbours!) No, seriously, decent hotel, convenient location and perfect for budget-conscious backpackers !

Room Tip: Triple check the rooms before paying! Iffley Road is quite busy, so prefer rooms not close to the ro...

“Not as bad as made out!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011 via mobile

Really wasn't as bad as made out on here- rooms are shabby and we didnt go for breakfast as it looked dodgy but the rooms are clean and beds quite comfortable! Only thing that annoyed me was that if you wanted to park in their "car park" (drive) you had to leave your car keys with them so that they could move your car if they needed to! Why would anyone in their right mind leave their keys for someone to drive their car! They could do anything to it! This was because people needed to leave at 7am...I didn't want to get up to move my car at that time and I wasn't going to let someone drive my car and do anything to it so we parked on the side streets nearby! For £50 a night in the centre of Oxford it's not bad! Esp just for one night!
