“Grand Traditional English Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We enjoyed a very pleasant stay at this wonderful hotel, definitely one of the jewels in Oxford's crown. A very grand, elegant and stylish hotel.
The staff are friendly and courteous; the decor tasteful and a genteel ambiance abounds.
Our suite definitely had the wow factor with imposing views overlooking the Ashmoleum museum. It was beautifully furnished and decorated in stylish shades. We had a sitting room with a large TV, a huge bedroom with a TV, a bathroom and an inner hallway with wardrobes containing both a trouser press and an ironing board. The enormous bed was extremely comfortable with luxury pillows and bedding. The bathroom was clean and bright with complimentary Molton Brown toiletries.
The restaurant is grand and atmospheric. We had the sirloin of beef carved at our table. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. When asked if they had goat's cheese our waitress replied yes, they had a choice of five and went on to describe each in detail. My tiramisu was served with a candle and birthday greeting, a lovely touch! The breakfast choice was good and the service equally as friendly as the previous evening.
Overall a wonderful hotel in a great location.

“Excellent Hotel, very relaxing and great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed at the Randolph for 4 nights in February and had a wonderful stay.
I had a problem with my bath on the first day but the staff were very helpful and moved all my bags to another room for me(which was bigger).
I would Highly Recommend the Morse Bar for a relaxing drink with very friendly and helpful staff.
The food (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) were very nicely prepared and tasted delicious.
I would also recommend the Spa, it was extreamly relaxing and welcoming

“AWFUL beyond belief”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Came to the hotel last week - what a terrible hotel - service was rubbish, the room was just digusting for a 5 star hotel it probably wouldn't even reach a 1 star!! Carpets were filthy - bed was at breaking point - so dusty could barely see things properly. Staff stuck up, rude and so ignorant!!!! The Spa - what spa?!!!!!!! was horrible - no facilities - didn't even bother staying for the night. Absolute shock - never ever ever again!!!

Thank you taking the time and trouble to post a review. I was sorry that you were not happy with your visit and subsequently left. Your comments are not the normal feedback I receive regarding the hotel or indeed the staff. Here at the hotel we have a diverse workforce from all over the world and welcome guests from all walks of life and countries.

We are independently inspected by The AA who award us our star rating and this was carried out in November last year.

I was sorry to learn that you found are housekeeping standards to be below par and I shall be discussing all your comments with the team at our weekly meeting.

With regards to The Spa, this does indeed have 2 Steam Rooms, 2 Saunas, 1 Hydrotherapy Jacuzzi, a Mini Gym, Sensation Shower and a cosy Relaxation Room. We have 4 treatments rooms which offer a range of Decleor treatments and pre-booking is essential.

I do hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

Kind regards,

“A starry afternoon in Oxford....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I was one of many starry eyed guests hosted at a recent luncheon in the ballroom of gothically gorgeous Randolph Hotel. The service.....the cuisine.... the ambiance (those twinkling Phantom of the Opera-esque, candelabras)....the hospitality (Mr. GM and entire staff)..... not to mention the celebrities (the dashing concierge team, the gracious Mayor of Oxford AND one illustrious English crime writer) was/were truly 5 star. My advice to anyone visiting Oxford? Do not leave town before stepping foot into this magical institution. I had the fortune of speaking with one of this hotel's most beloved devotees and was given these parting words of wisdom (as quoted from one of his favorite Dowson poems): "Before my light goes out forever if God should give me a choice of graces, I would not reck of length of days nor crave of things to be; but cry one day, of the great lost days, one face of all the faces, grant me to see and touch once more, and nothing more to see."
I think quite possibly that "one face" is named Randolph!

“Faded glory”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I stayed here for one night in February with my girlfriend. Having stopped here before and had a good experience, I was disappointed this time around. The room was a lot smaller than last time (although the same type/price band of room). It's got all the amenities you'd expect (T&C making, ironing board, trouser press, etc) but it's nothing special at all, especially compared the hotel I stayed in the previous night (3-4* hotel in central Oxford).

The rooms do not match the grandeur of the hotel facade, dining room and lobby. I'm thankful we got a special rate for the room as if I'd paid full price for it I would not have been happy.

There is nothing wrong with the hotel as such, but given it is billed as 5 star, it falls some way short of the expectations you may have for such a rating, espcially if you have stayed in some of the more modern, high quality hotels e.g. the Malmaisons or the Radissons. However, I would say that the service on this stay was better than my previous visit, and the staff were a redeeming feature for the hotel.

Room Tip: Only a small thing, but rooms with a view of the Asmolean Museum are pleasant.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I was sorry to learn that the hotel did not live up to your expectations on your second visit. All the rooms at the hotel vary in size but are graded based on amenities and space. I am only sorry that you did not mention this at the time and I know the team would have done all in their power to facilitate a room move for you.
We are not a modern hotel. The hotel was built in the late 1800’s and has been an Oxford Institution for over 100 years. We were one of the hotels to feature in the first Michelin Hotel Guide which recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary.
I do hope that we may be of service to you again in the future.
