A beautiful old building with all the charm you'd hope for.
This is more like a top-drawer guesthouse than an hotel. Don't expect a big lobby, spacious common areas or corridors leading to large rooms with designer bathrooms. Instead, expect lots of steep stairs, wonky walls, low ceilings and had-banging doorways. None of this is a criticism; indeed, many will view it as a reason to go.
The staff were freindly and my room was good - very comfortable bed. The decor is slightly faded, but contemporary furniture and coverings would look out of place. You wouldn't want to spend too much time in the rooms (they're too small for that), but the bar, comfy chairs and fire in the lobby area are inviting. My bathroom was huge, but there's no walk in shower. Instead, its a 'proper' bath with a shower over it.
Nice touches include: free wi-fi, free bottled water and bikes for excursions into town.
I'd certainly rate this as a better experience than the Randoph hotel. If you want a contempoary hotel, try the Malmaison. But, if you want comfortable and charming, this is very good.
