Very nice rooms, excellent bath and shower
The bar was open as long as we wanted it to and stayed there till about 4am drinking champagne and eating cheese on toast.
Very nice bar area, well appointed rooms but overall and compared with other local hotels it's just overpriced at 225 a night.
This hotel really did itself proud catering for our son's wedding this month. A large number of guests stayed with us at the venue for the reception and all were impressed with the unique atmosphere of this boutique hotel. It is in a converted brewery and the whole place is a bit of a temple to alcohol, but as total abstainers my wife and I still had no trouble fitting in. This is not the place for children though - not only the alcohol and the cigar bar might offend, but so would the nude paintings hung large in the dining room! BUT - the staff were excellent, the service brilliant, the facilities great, the room spectacular and the food delicious! Can't ask for much more than that eh?
The Hotel du Vin Henley maintains and enhances the fantastic levels of service and customer care I have come to expect from this chain of hotels. Terrific quality bed, sumptuous toiletries and enthusiastic staff all combine to make a stay here a huge pleasure. These hotels aren't cheap but worth every penny.
We stayed here for one night in April 2012 and would rate it as OK but could do better. The hotel is located very close to the river but is not actually on the river front. On arrival we were asked if we preferred a noisy or quiet room and naturally said quiet. The room we were given faced the back courtyard so had no view at all, fair enough but the room layout was not great either and was rather dark.
There was a coffee maker but this could only produce lukewarm coffee, the desk light didn't work and the room did not appear to have been vacuumed very well judging by the detritus around and under the bed and the air conditioning was not functioning properly either. All relatively small things but nonetheless things that should be checked in a hotel of this standard.
On the plus side, the bathroom was very good with big shower and free standing bath, the bed was large and very comfortable and the food was excellent and helped make up for the other shortcomings.
The bistro menu was not large but had a reasonable mix of dishes and at reasonable prices. The presentation and service were excellent, both for dinner and breakfast. Some of the earlier reviews say the service was not great but we found it to be very good without being over fussy. The dinner menu seemed slightly at odds with the 40+ page winelist where the lowest priced bottle of wine was priced higher than the most expensive main course.
We had planned to have a pre dinner drink in the comfy seated bar area but despite this being virtually empty at 7pm, it was all marked 'reserved' and we were forced to return to our room, again disappointing. We booked the room on a Sunday night rate where you pay £45 for the room and then must spend a minimum of £75 per couple in the bistro. At £105 we spent more than twice as much in the bistro for dinner as we did on the room and that very much reflected our overall experience of the hotel, bistro excellent but room disappointing.
