“Go elsewhere.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

The room tempreture could not be controlled at all, I ended up turning all radiators off but the room still felt like we were sleeping in the tropics, I think all residents thought this as when we went for breakfast every window of the annex was open. Although you can not do anything about the noise level , I feel you should advertise you are on a main road as we didnt appriciate being woken by a souped up clio going over the BYpass at 1am in the morning, time after time after time. The breakfast would have been adequate if I was a dwarf on a diet , we were not asked what we wanted just if we wanted a full cooked (although my son was asked) I would have prefered a little more substanance , mushrooms and beans , not the apologetic deep fryed tomato that was gracing my plate.

When checking out I felt that there was no customer service , my card was simply taken off me and the fee taken off my card. I would have voiced my opinion when asked , however I was not asked .

I feel your fee for your room was excessive for the quality , and frankly have stayed in better quality hotels , for less and with a sea view I may add.

“stay at the rockaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

we stayed over at this hotel as we were visiting family for the grandson's birthday
we were shown to our room and made to feel very welcome, room was spacious clean and
had tea and coffee making facilities, there was also little packets of shower gels which was
a nice surprise as we had forgotten to bring some, didn't have a meal in the restaraunt but
the breakfast the next morning was very nice and for the price adequate, would certainly
stay again, as it is situated on a main road you will experiance some traffic noise but it
does quieten down

“Not dreadful, but ask some questions before you book.”

I stayed here on a Sunday night and it seemed as though the hotel was half closed, I saw one other guest. I was in a single in the annexe across the street, which is in the process of having some improvements done to it. It wasn't clear whether this was just the apparent wheelchair access being constructed (it might not have been this) but there was a fair amount of building debris at the back of the property (my view from my window).

My room was a decent size for a single and clean but the desk would have benefited from a small lamp if you needed to work at it. The TV was of limited use (four channels worked) but I didn't really care about that. The en suite was OK, shower and loo, but there seemed to be some mould in the shower around the base ... it certainly wasn't pristine but the shower worked. The bed, however, was a different story. Covered in a drab, brown patterned creation, it didn't look inviting. The cover was evidently padded as it was comfortable enough to lie on top of but I discovered (too late in the evening ) that, once between the sheets, the mattress had long since died and sagged badly in the middle. It was one of the worst night's sleep I have ever had to pay for.

Breakfast the next day was good. A choice of English or continental.

I was going to say something about the mattress when I paid but (being too blooming British) I didn't and the man serving me didn't exchange any pleasantries at that point; it was very much business. £49.00

Would I go again? Maybe not but I wouldn't rule it out as long as I ascertained that the bed was comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask about the quality of the mattresses.

“Friendly, helpful staff but depressing room in need of update, unimpressive breakfast and no fresh coffee.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2010

There are about 4 hotels to choose from in this area, close to the station. I took punt on this one and was a little disappointed - I expect better for 50 quid - so I would try one of the others next time... but maybe they are no better. That said, maybe they don't get enough trade to spend much on the place. However, anywhere calling itself a hotel should provide proper coffee at breakfast!

“worst breakfast ever”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2010

Very dated, dreadful shower, and the worst breakfast I've ever been served in a hotel or b&b. Instant coffee, leathery eggs, grumpy service at breakfast. Manager very friendly though.
