I booked to stay at this hotel online a day before traveling from Scotland. This hotel is next to an IVF clinic and it is common for patients to stay there to be close to the clinic the next morning for procedures. We had eaten in the hotel on previous visits (very average) and thought it looked ok. When I made the booking it advised I would be charged if I did not turn up.
I drove from Scotland after work and arrived at the hotel around 11pm. When I arrived I was told they had no rooms. I asked why they could not have phoned me to advise of this prior to me setting off from Glasgow and it became obvious they have a policy of overselling rooms and hoping everyone doesn't turn up. If you don't turn up, I am very sure they will still take your money, for a room they have sold to someone else. At the time of booking, there was nothing to say you should phone ahead if you would arrive after a certain time.
I asked to stay anywhere in the hotel; even a conference room with a sheet and was told this was not possible. All we were offered was a twin room at a hotel half an hour away for which we would need to pay £100 - not even offered free of charge for our hassle. I explained that I had paid to stay at that hotel when it was the most expensive in the area to ensure I was closeby for my procedure early the next day, embarrassed to give any personal info but hoping it might make them try a bit harder. I could have found a cheaper hotel must closer than that myself. The bar would not sell us any food as we did not have a room, and due to getting surgery next day, I wasn't allowed to eat anything after midnight so had nothing to eat that night. Eventually, when we had no choice but to go to the other much more basic hotel we were told this is an arrangement these hotels have between them and rooms are indeed oversold. I got to bed at 1.30 and had to leave the hotel at 6.30 to be sure I got to where I had to be in time.
To make matters worse, someone came in after we did and got a room at the hotel. They did not want to give them a key in front of us until I insisted they didn't inconvenience them because of us. Apparently, this was because this gentleman had the foresight to phone earlier that day to ensure his room was kept for him. I wrote to QHotels to complain about this and received no reply, but have received much junk mail giving me offers for their hotels. I would never stay in any of their hotels after the way we were treated. When I asked to speak to someone in charge at the time all of the staff were really young and no proper manager was present that night or the next day. I have taken so long to write this as was too upset at the time and have received yet more junk mail from this company.
If you do decide to stay at this hotel, make sure you phone on the day and get confirmation of your room.
