“Lovely weekend escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Booked this as a last minute deal after finding out we had to go to Nottingham over my husbands birthday weekend. What a great find, the room we had (Robert Burns) was the standard room, I had called to upgrade but it was fully booked, we were not disappointed, the room was full of character and felt in keeping with the hotel. Dinner in the Georgetown was excellent and the restaurant was very busy so if you are staying here then I suggest you make a reservation prior to arriving (we almost didnt bother, so glad that we did) Our only disappointment was that the bar had been hired out, given that it is in an slightly isolated area we had a couple of drinks in the restaurant but then retired to our room earlier than expected.

The gardens are lovely and I imagine in the summer a great place to relax. If you are looking for a place to relax and switch off this is it, if you are looking for tons of facilities to keep you occupied it is not - no health clubs or pools. For us it was a perfect weekend escape from a busy week and we will definately return.

(a note for the hotel - whilst it did not detract from our stay I have to agree with another reviewer re the room trays - we passed the same icebucket and glasses on both Saturday and Sunday - did not look great)

Room Tip: Not sure of other rooms they look like they would all be different - we had no issues with our room...

“Grand place but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We went for a weekend. Booked a superior room. We was only ones at this part of hotel, very disapointed with room, dusty, wall paper ripped, bits on floor. The view we had was overlooking the bins, gas bottles, dirty laundry. Staff could'nt understand english although very, very friendly. Ive never been to a hotel that advertises mini bar in room yet totally empty. The friday night had room service the tray was taken out of our room the saturday morning but placed on a table outside our room still there when we checked out on the sunday. Its such a shame as only little things need to be done that would make all the difference. I would perhaps stay at hotel again if I knew they had improved on cleaness and I promised a better view. Gorgeous walk way to toilets down stairs with lots of different mirrors. This place could be amazing- wish I was given chance to sort it out, could make it outstanding!!!

“Fantastic, highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I had a slight ulterior motive in booking this place or a xmas treat for us, the previous owner was as my name Richard Byron albeit in the 17th Century, that and they were doing some very good deals and we had to go to Nottingham anyway!
Anyway, we were not dispointed. The room was very well decorated, really warm, and the bathroom was amazing. Flat screen HD tv and tea and coffee also.
We had booked as part of our package a meal in the restaurant.
I have high expectations from restaurants, but I have to say the service, meal and wine was excellent. And so to bed, comfortable and the room lovely and warm, as was the whole hotel!
Breakfast after a nice hot shower, which would set you up for the day!
Walked around the house which is in good repair with old and new features tastefully blended, and the grounds afterwards which in themselves are lovely with lake at the back and fountains at the front.
We left feeling very happy with the place, and would go back if nearby, thanks.

Room Tip: All seemed good, the basic ones are brilliant value

“A grand old place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We loved our one -night stay.Returning from a trip to the north,we wanted something close to the M1 but also an end- of -break treat.Colwick Hall,a late 18th century building, with lovely grounds, fitted the bill and lived up to expectations.Following the route of the A52 ring-road to Grantham, then signs to the race-course, we found it fairly easily in the dark. There is parking on site ,but with a disabled driver ,were allowed to park right outside the entrance.

We enjoyed the grandeur of a really huge bedroom-room and bathroom, decorated with rich wall-paper and antique furniture. The public rooms downstairs are beautiful, especially the Grand Ball-room and the Champagne Bar.There is a lot of architectural detail, masses of ornate mirrors and chandeliers,so will appeal to traditionalists.

Breakfast was also traditional standard fare, individually cooked and served. The menu for dinner was decidedly not. Although there is an English menu,we chose from the Georgetown Menu featuring,Chinese,Malaysian and Indian dishes and enjoyed some unusual dishes. For only £39 you can have four courses,a Singapore Sling cocktail, which was so delicious I had two, half a bottle of wine,a glass of sweet dessert wine and coffee, which we thought very good value. There are cheaper options.

What particularly impressed us was the offer to serve all this in our room, without service charge, because my partner, who is disabled, and I were very tired after an eight-hour drive. We took advantage of this which made for a very relaxing evening, especially with so much to drink!

The next morning we were able to admire the beautiful grounds and staff also took us around the building of which they were clearly proud. There are only 16 bedrooms but they can cater for very large-scale dining in a number or dining-areas and their Xmas packages and meals look very good value.

This hotel is very close to the race-course ,to the two football grounds and to Trent Bridge Cricket grounds,as well as a marina, where you can take boat trips. We will definitely go there again. The staff there are all foreign,as one reviewer commented, but they were all charming, friendly and helpful, which is what counts.

Room Tip: They are all individual,so ask about the rooms.

“Lovely looking place BUT........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We got a good deal for a one night stay in a superior room only the room (King George III) BUT wasn't very clean and a little on the shabby side. One of the blinds was broken, one of the curtains was hanging off, the bedspread had marks on it...........lets not go there!! But the bed sheets WERE clean. The Bathroom was massive BUT - the shower head was VERY dusty (you could write your name in it), there were cobwebs, the frosted cup in the bathroom had not been cleaned for a VERY long time as there was well, I dread to think what was in the bottom of it!! The was NO BISTRO as advertised and although my husband enjoyed his food I was disappointed that there was no English menu and had to order from the Bar menu and then they got it wrong but did give my husband a free beer! I feel that the owners have tried to keep this English home alive but a little bit more TLC wouldn't go amiss.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view DO NOT take the KING GEORGE III room as it over looks the BIN YARD!!
